Lavender Orpington project ....

Would anyone be willing to take a stab at this one for me please? This is supposed to be a sexed pullet that I got from a hatchery, 7 weeks old. The comb and wattles have me concerned, although the leg length and thickness, stance, demeanor, etc is not that of a cockerel. Thoughts?

That comb and wattles look very pink for 7 weeks. Pullets dont usually turn pink until they are about ready to lay - 18-20 weeks. Sorry, I think you have a cockerel. :(

It looks like a pullet to me. Orpington hens seem to have fairly large red combs compared to other breeds. Thats just from what I've seen in mine.

It definitely looks to be a rooster at that age.

I have a trio of lavs, male has white/black splotches on his legs, 1 pullet has black legs and the last has white legs.

I hope on crossing them to some lovely blacks(about 3-4 months old) that I was able to get my hands on from a great breeder, now just to figure out these genetics and what would be a better/faster way for me to improve my birds.

Thanks in advance!

Also, I have pics of them in my group I'm not able to upload any for some reason.

Anyone else have Orpingtons and wants to join a group dedicated to Orpingtons of Texas(And surrounding areas)?

I think that it'd be great we can also post pics of projects that we're working on, and birds we have available to sale/trade. It'd be a really fun/informative group

I just created the page so go join and add pics and information about your birds, "Orpingtons of Texas" is the name of the group.

I thought it may be nice to have a thread, for all of us to share our Lavender Orp project pictures and such.  Can we do that? I would love to see and hear more about them. I absoluely love the lavender coloring!

I hatched mine around Halloween, 2009. My eggs came from scbatz (Sarah).  They originate from Jody and Charlie (hinkjc). Here are a few pictures of them. (I do have many many more pictures!) My DH isn't really as chicken obsessed as I am, but he has two favorites .... the Delawares for personality and entertainment, and the Lavenders for their beautiful color.

I just got a Lavender Orfington rooster. Any hens for sale in Washington State. My rooster is so big and beautiful.

I'm in Australia so there is stuff all Lavender Orp breeders...
This year I set up a Lavender and Lavender Cuckoo project. I am using Platinum Sussex (lavender based birchen) over Cuckoo for the Lavender Cuckoos. I am expecting some birchen as well from F1. Paltinum Sussex have orange eyes but the right legs and my girls have round shape so I'm off to a good start for the cuckoo variety. The solids are starting off with Platinums over Black Orpington rooster, I will have to breed for brown eyes. Nice Orpingtons everyone!
