Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Oh, sorry new chick 203! Maybe you need more breeds of chickens! We'd still be waiting here (now at 22 weeks) if it weren't for those leghorns. I am sending egg-producing thoughts your way, so that yours will get started!

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I think leghorns have a reputation for laying early. One of mine started at 17 weeks, and the other at 19 weeks. All of our chickens are now 21 weeks, and only one of the other 13 has started laying. At least we are getting plenty of fresh white eggs!

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Still waiting for a brown egg here. All 21 weeks old tomorrow. The 2 leghorns lay almost daily (and sometimes at night). One of the EEs lays every other day or so. This morning, we found an egg mess on the poop board. We are assuming a shell-less egg. It was mostly egg white, just a little...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Congratulations, Mak! Does anyone have pullets who are laying at night? Three nights in a row, the leghorn has laid at night, up on the roost. The egg crashes down on the poop board and breaks. I hope she gets back on schedule soon. 3 of 16 now laying! Robin

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Don't feel bad about wondering what a roo is, mdc2be. I am baffled by all the breed abbreviation on here! Most of them I have been able to figure out, but many times I have wished someone had a dictionary for these things. What's a GSL?

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I had a miscount, earlier, new chick 203. I thought they were 18 weeks, when they were only 17, - and it is a real frustration when you are waiting and waiting. Now that one of the leghorns is laying, the waiting for the other 15 isn't bad at all! mdc2be - I hear from other chicken owners...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

HA! Congratulations Adora!!! I guess those egg-producing thoughts worked! I guess I'll have to project some of that onto my other 15 that haven't laid yet! The leghorn has now given us 5 eggs, and the last one was a full 2 oz. I can't wait until the other colors start coming in.

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

We got our fourth egg today. Those leghorns are powerhouses! She has been laying everyday since she started (although I admit it hasn't been that long). They are 18 weeks and none of the other 15 have laid at all. I'm predicting we get a full dozen of leghorn eggs before we get any others...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Congratulations chickenprincess!!!!! You got quite the egg laying photos, CarolAnn! I've never actually seen an egg come out (although I am new at this). I think you are right, HHandbasket, that 6 months or longer is more normal. At least that is what my friend who's had chickens for years...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I got my first egg!!!! I couldn't believe it! It had been laid on the poop board (at night? ), so it had a tiny crack on the bottom. It was white, so I know it was one of the leghorns. Her comb is very red. She is 17 weeks and 3 days. I've heard it is not great to have an early layer. Why...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

How old are your chickens now, chickenprincess? I'm still waiting, but mine are only 17 weeks (and 2 days). I must admit, I get a little discouraged when I read all the posts by people whose chickens are 20 - 24 weeks and beyond, that haven't seen a single egg. I guess I'll be waiting for a...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

17 weeks and one day. Someone really dug around in the nest box today! I don't know who it was. I've never seen any of them enter the nest box, and usually there is barely a sign a chicken has been in there, - just a stray feather. But today, it looks like they were using earth-moving...

HA! Love the image of the 5-way egg split! Hope you get more eggs soon. Robin

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Congratulations on that first egg, featherz! I, too, am conflicted with desperately wanting my first egg, and simultaneously thinking it may not be good for my chickens to lay when they are this young (17 weeks tomorrow). One of the Welsummers and one of the Leghorns is getting quite red, but...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Still waiting here at 16 weeks, 3 days. I expect it will be close to a month more. Chicksuk, - I too, was wondering if the chickens would even start laying this year, with the decreasing daylight. I am new to this, but my friend who has kept chickens for years, says that young chickens lay...
