Everyone must be out mowing or haying. I know we have been busy with both. But now I have a bit of time to spend on BYC again. Does anyone worm their chickens? If so, with what and when?
Everything has to exist in harmony on our little homestead. I am too busy to have to worry about what all of my animals are doing and if everyone is getting along. So I trained them. I have three herding dogs all from cattle lines that have a lot of head and heal bite on stock. I have trialed...
I think it's a personal choice. I have read that chicks born in spring vs. winter can be more susceptible to coccidiosis. It becomes more prevalent in warm wet weather. Winter chicks have had time to build up immunity because the soil is not as concentrated with cocci as it is in the spring. I...
I think the rules are town/city specific. We live in Benton County outside of the city limits of Centerton and we don't have any restrictions. I know in the city of Bentonville you cannot have more than 3 chickens and no roosters, in Rogers I think the limit is 4. I don't know if there are any...
Thanks for posting that. Mine must have been ripped of the bag. I like how it says "plant and animal protein products." I wonder what those products are? The main difference I can see in the two food labels is that on the other bag we had Vitamin B12 and Vitamin E as part of the top 5...
I was trying to find a list of ingredients on the Dumor bag and couldn't find one. On the Orscheln bag of feed there was a list of ingredients and two of the top five listed were Vitamin B12 and E. I was reading that a deficiency in Vitamin B12 and Vitamin E can cause the leg problems we have...
Has anyone had trouble using Dumor chick starter? I purchased some at tractor supply and started feeding it to my chicks. (Before I was feeding medicated feed from Orschelns). All of a sudden they are having issues. They are around 4 weeks old and are a bit listless and two of them are dragging...
I had some chicken chores planned for this morning too. Unfortunately, is raining here, so some of them may have to wait for another sunny day. I probably spent too much time outside playing on Saturday, but I just couldn't resist the urge to "play."
Hello Arkansans! I have started a new Ameraucana Breed Thread and thought I would post the link here to see if anyone wanted to join. Here is a brief description of the thread:
I have been browsing on the "sticky" Ameraucana thread lately and it seemed to me that there was a need to create a...
The kale ideas sounds great to me. I know I will not be eating tons of it myself. So whatever I don't eat I will definitely give to the chickens. We do have a fenced in garden and I wanted to give them vegetables they might like this year as well as the usual fruit.
Are there any vegetables that chickens like (besides corn) that can be grown in the garden? Starting seeds indoors for certain vegetables today and trying to figure out how many plants of each I should start.
