That's what the weird feathers are....I swear. You'd think I would learn. OK, Don...should I still get another rooster to work with these pullets, or start over since two of these pullets have slipped wings and now one twisted?
If it were me I would find a different blood splash male...

I see nothing wrong with her color, this is not considered straw color.
I do see a slipped and twisted wing though.

PINK: I REALLY like the dark copper you have on your boys.
I decided to grow this pullet out because she was so dark, but the copper in her hackles in coming in super light. Not sure what that means in pullets...is she more likely to pass along straw colored hackles in the males? This...

Nice! Lucky guy! Gotta love the bargaining power of chickens! My Dad lives up on the coast where few people keep chickens....he trades fresh eggs for tons of stuff!
JEREMY: March sounds great for me too. Hmm...definitely bring those AM eggs. I'd be WAY too tempted to acquire a new breed if you brought the Orp eggs!
PINK: I will work on getting a decent non-related rooster to breed her to. The pullet doesn't always hold her wing goofy like in the...
DON: Thank you for your insight on breeding the blue pullet! And the GCM pullet. I always learn a ton from you.
Jeremy: anytime...just give me a heads up so I can collect eggs for you before you get here.
Sew: Would love to see pics of the group you hatched from my eggs if you get time!

I only have her blue copper dad at the moment. I intended to order another batch of black copper chicks from the breeder I got the original birds from (Culpepper) in attempts to get a decent BCM male. Unless you have another suggestion??

Thanks for the hug...but, I don't feel bashed. I would much rather have the opportunities to learn than take anything personally.
OK...I got more pictures of her. Wing evaluation time Don....and your expert advice on how to fix split wings would be greatly appreciated! I don't 'think' her...
Thank you, Don!!! I will get more pictures of her from the side to be sure. It would be helpful for me as well to know what part of her wing you are referring to.
OK...I'm going out to take more pictures!

She should start to lay any day....I will sneak in some of her eggs to hitch a ride to WA.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
The GCM egg is really big for a pullet egg... she has been laying for a couple of weeks, but it was never very small.
Thought I would pop in for some show-n-tell...
A blue copper pullet I hatched from my gang. I know you cant evaluate her very well from the angle, but let me know if you all see anything really off with her.
And some eggs my GCM pullet has been laying....

That is a very big difference in feather quality! Is there any other way to feed aside from mixing grains, which I'm finding is cost prohibitive to maintain a decent protein content, or hen-feed?

Haha I have a bunch of roos I kept because they are pretty. Now I have 3 bachelor pads too many. I try and find a way to use them (ahem, justify keeping them) LOL. I kept this dark BCM roo because he turned out huge and has nice leg feathers, is the sweetest rooster, plus he came from...
