Okay, after a summer of culling and picking out what I think is the best of best traits I came up with this guy. This blue copper maran is 7 1/2 months. He has a little copper flecked on his breast but over all I think he is the best I can do this year. What do you think? It's okay to pick him...

I just got a spalsh maran booted out of my flock. He was very nice to the girls. He would find food and call them over. He did his dance and if they walked away he just went to the next girl. However, people around his girls or babies where fair game. He was so heavy you could hear him stomping...

Mine gave up about 2 days ago. Every time we saw her in the nest he tossed her out in the yard. Oh what a fuss she makes. She has been broody for about 2 months. We also moved her to a private pen. That way she couldn't steal eggs. Today was the first day I saw her out in the yard until my corgi...

In short pea comb is not always green eggers and single isn't always brown-white. EE genentics makes for unknown outcomes. One of the reasons I love them.

Yes he can wait. He has till fall. That's when I start thinning the flock for chicken vs feed cost. I'm keeping all the girls till they lay and any EE brown layers will go. And going down to 1 ee rooster and 1 BlCM rooster.

Hello I have a Blue Copper Maran my hubby brought home last night. I look at it and I see what I think is wrong with it. I am not sure if I want him for a breeder. But if he passes the Maran thread DQ's I'll use him. He was born in OCT 2011. Grandparents from French eggs or so he said. He is...

I did a head count last night. I am missing 11 biddies. That hawk sure had fun. Everyone is on lock down now except the adults. I moved them around and put pullets in one pen and cockerels in another. I have a lot more EE's than I thought I would. I need to sale off some if anyone lives in my...

My splash marans have pink toes and soles with a funky green tint leg. Same with the splash pullet I got from a local breeder. Also the splash ees that came off of my splash maran have pink toes and funky green tint legs. Rumpless can be a throw back only if it has an Araucana gene some where...

I set up traps and stayed outside alot. I caught a raccoon, opossum, and a feral tom cat. All where relocated. Yesterday I saw the real...

7-8 weeks old is when mine started crowing too last year. Last year I had 22 cockerels and once 1 learned to crow I had a band of awful sounding crows. At first I didn't know what that noise was. Then all the cockerels had to go! Too much noise.
