    Here's one of our marans chicks weighing in today at 9oz (almost 4 weeks old). I'm just going to guess but.... roo? He's supposed to be a cuckoo/black cross but I don't see the cuckoo.

    Well from what you said, only one of the chicks has a larger comb than the others. It was also the first one to hatch about 2 days before the others. That one 'might' be a roo. We'll see. Thank you for the help :)

    Ok so combs at 1 week have nothing to do with the sex of our chicks. I didn't think about it but I did see the comb difference on the mature Wyandottes and BCMs. At what age will I be able to tell the sex of marans? What signs should I look for?

    I'll be picking up some maran chicks on Thursday and I wasn't sure if there was a way to tell if they're male or female? Any advice? Is it too early to make an educated guess? They just hatched this weekend.
