Regardless of where it rates on the darkness scale, that is one beautiful egg! I have a Welsummer that lays a similar egg. Love the speckles.

Ha! No wonder those people are afraid to talk chicken with you! Just kidding, really, I was able to follow along, but the whole thing is still confusing sometimes, especially before my coffee. My friend who has had chickens for years and years, still calls all EEs, Ameraucanas, and...

Ha! Our posts just crossed, just as I declared it splash. Do the blues commonly have those flecks of color?

Well, I guess it is a splash, then. Your splash is a real beauty, heath_elisha! :)

Yes! The Easter hatch. I thought she was blue, but after looking at some photos in the auction listings, I now think maybe she is splash. It's the only Marans egg that hatched, so I am thrilled to have a girl, no matter what kind it is!

I haven't been able to keep up with this thread at all, but so glad I checked in on time to see those pig photos! I have a lone blue marans, 18 weeks old, but she has flecks of color all over, like splash markings. So, could someone tell me if she is blue, or splash, or blue with some off...

The drier weather may be a God send with the higher heat. Breathing always is difficult with the humidity and the heat.  I'm as far south as I will go. I grew up coastal Maine and miss the cool, let me get real here, COLD evening water off the ocean. I wore a wool sweater every day and have the...

My blue pullet looks a lot like that, but she is just over 10 weeks now. I'm not sure if she has those wattles though (it's getting kind of dark to go look right now). For the sake of comparison, I did post a photo at 7 weeks (post #35512). "Her" comb was very tiny then. I'm convinced mine...

You missed the cliff notes? Someone, I think it was dsqard, used to summarize about one hundred posts into three sentences for me! Great time saver.

Are you publishing this? I always liked the cliff notes for Mahonri's Easter hatch. :D

Wow, this is a busy thread! Yes, it is a sight thing. They can only see down and to the sides. It seems kind of cruel, but I did not want to get rid of my birds, and nothing else worked for me. It would be difficult to put on without 2 people (at least for my birds that are not used to being...

desertmarcy, if you can identify who your pickers are, the peepers really do work. I believe there are some chickens that can't be broken of the picking habit. I have a leghorn that started picking and eating feathers as a chick. After a cooped up winter, she got worse, and a few others...

Broodies here, too! Now at 7, and counting... Ditto on the egg customers. Some have prepaid. I'm lucky school is ending soon, so I'll have much less contact with customers!

I tried to hatch some shipped Marans eggs, and only one hatched. It appears to be blue, and a pullet, correct? "She" is 7 weeks old in the photo. Thanks for any feedback!
