I have plenty of room, but I would rather not feed him if he just won't make it. I have one with lots of color in the breast and shoulder area and I don't think he will make a breeder for my program. It's the same ole problem we all face,do I or don't I ? I'm at the age that I need to jump ahead...
They are very nice, it's hard to achieve the perfect Marans. All the blue copper males I have seen at shows had a fair amount more copper. Do I want a rooster with none to little copper on the breast. And, if care to answer , at what age would you consider the color to be true, mine are only 4...
Are the goals for blue copper equal to that of the black copper, just that the blue replaces the black? This is my first year with blue copper. These pics show roosters with less copper than I expected to see, should that be my goal?
My rooster is coming around very well. I have spent the last hour out there and he is starting to be a rooster again. My pens have three feet spacing between them and no way could the two roosters get close enough to fight, but I guess he wanted to prove he was top rooster, got his leg caught in...
And a Happy New Year to you,and everyone else that's talking chicken today. Maybe in the new year we can all overcome one small task in our breeding program. Mine (I think) came today,I have my blue/ silver birchen cockerel in a " get well house" because he hurt his leg trying to be mr macho...
O k. I took this pullet and two black copper pullets out in the sun,I agree with very dark blue. Extremely dark blue. Great lacing which is not there with BC. Thanks for the responses.
The splash pullet came from a bluexblue mating. I don't know if that has something to do with it. I know at three months I call her black. If its a very dark blue that would be great,as that's what I'm after. The rooster is a very dark blue but you can tell its not black. All four chicks did...
I had a blue rooster over splash hen and my chicks looked like that,I came out with two blue, one black, one blue splash. Mine are now three weeks old and I don't know if they will change as they age.
Thank you,I was wondering how many folks out there had silver/blue birchen females? These, it seems, are like finding those infamous hens teeth. I am trying to compare my babies to others, mine are 3 months old now and the birchen is really starting to fill in the hackle area. Would like to see...
I have seen a decent number of whites at several shows, several in the jr shows. The black have been the ones that are not around. Don't know why,I would have thought they would be more popular. I have one black pullet but I'm going to put her in with the blue ones. I am thinking,if I put pure...
Yea,the time thing has become easier for us because we are at that age now,I still have to be here for snow but anything else I could slide away for a weekend. I have seen a lot of birds get DQ for sprigs this year. It's my understanding that one day is fine and the next they have sprigs. Mine...
My plans are to make that show, that's a tough time of year for me,if it snows I have to be here. And in Kentucky,in January or February,it will snow. Are you planning on showing any Marans in that show?
A lot of Marans people have told me " to see Marans ,go south". My plans this upcoming year are to do just that. I did get to Alabama for one show this year but to no avail, there were no more there than any other show. I would like to find a couple hens or eggs just to step up the time frame on...
For this upcoming show season I have added a black copper pullet, blue copper pullet and a blue(very nice) cockerel. All are unrelated to the birchens and blue that I have now. I find it very hard to get info from a judge on any variety of Marans,I guess because they are new to our standard,I...
