Mine will be 5 months old on the 23rd. One of my blues starting laying 2 days ago. I have another one that has started squatting, so looking for her to start sometime next week. Pullet eggs are so cute!
I don't remember when mine started showing saddle feathers. I had 4 chicks that were way slower to feather than my other 4. Of those 4 to slow feather, 3 of them ended up being cockerels.
About what age did ya'll pullets start laying? The breeder I got mine from, said her's usually lay around...
My English BBS Orps are getting bigger. This is them at 3 1/2 months old.
This is one of my 2 cockerels. Both of them are splash. This one shows the most color.
Mine are 3 1/2 months old, so I can't help with the laying, but my boys starting crowing around 3 mos. They started harassing the pullets a few days later, so they got put in with my older hens. They behave a lot better now.
I had a hatchery Buff I got last year, and she has never laid.
He/she is very pretty! Is that the only English Orp you have?
My English Orps are only 3 months old now, but I would say you have a roo. The comb/wattle on yours are bigger and redder than on my hens. Your's also has the longer, curved tail feathers that lead me to think it is a roo. But I'm...
I have 8 English BBS Orps. Four of them feathered very fast, and the others were really slow to feather. I banded them to see how they turn out. Four of the slow to feather chicks I'm pretty sure are roos. They also have really big feet.
I was the same way! It seems the older my splash get, the...
Thanks! I really like them so far. Yes, some are chunkier than others, lol. They sure have a lot of feathers that's for sure!
Question for anyone. I'm working on an adult pen for the babies. I need to know what size did ya'll make the pop door for your English Orps? Since mine are still...
These are my most current pics. Took them a little while ago when I went to lock everyone up. They were 7 weeks old yesterday.
These are the 2 Splash's that I believe are roos. The one on the left is bigger all over.
This is my smaller splash "roo" and the blue who I believe is...
From what I understand, if you put a chocolate roo over a splash hen you will have blue males split to chocolate and mauve females. The chicks will be auto sexing this way? At least it seems that way to me.
I finally got my English Blue Orps last week. I have 3 Blues and 5 Splash.
This is Ranger. He/she is my darkest one. I have two that are a little lighter and one that is really a pale blue, will probably be a darker splash.
They are 3 days old in these pics. They are a lot calmer...
