The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Looks like color leakage to me, it could just be bleaching from the sun tho...

If it is leakage, you don't want to breed him.

Too bad, his type is very nice.

Yeah I thought he might have leakage, I agree his type is nice. I was hoping he was mauve as his type is pretty good, like you said. Hope it's just bleaching...

Recently I hatched out a dozen English BBS orpingtons. They are three weeks old now. With the exception of 1 chick, they all have huge, thick legs and barely any feathers on their wings. The orpingtons are already twice as big as my australorps, but the orps have no feathers and look like fat penguins walking around. Can I assume they are all cockerels due to the size of their legs and their lack of feathers. Just today a couple of them are starting to get tails. Most of them are also starting to grow bigger combs.

Here are five of them. Are the two in the foreground Splash? I thought they were blue but now I'm starting to wonder. The breeder was't much help when I asked.

I wouldn't despair of pullets just yet, and yes, the pale ones look like splash rather than blue (like the ones behind). I didn't think I'd like splash much, but it turns out it's my favorite of the three colors, LOL!

I have 8 English BBS Orps. Four of them feathered very fast, and the others were really slow to feather. I banded them to see how they turn out. Four of the slow to feather chicks I'm pretty sure are roos. They also have really big feet.

I was the same way! It seems the older my splash get, the more colorful they are becoming.

Thanks for all the help!  I'm pretty sure I have 9 roos and maybe 1 pullet.  I don't want any more roosters, especially not any of these orpingtons.  I just wanted 2 hens.  :(   I guess I'll try to find them homes while I can.

Talk about bad odds!! I did have a splash that everyone told me on this thread was a cockeral and she is now a huge hen... So make sure you give them time to develop.
