He was from 8 chicks I got from BYC member Kimberly35042. Her Blues are from a very respected blood line. You would have to check with her for details. I don't remember the details.

All of my birds are named for Harry Potter characters.

Let's see - there's Hermione of course, Lilly Potter, Luna Lovegood, Reita Skeeter, Cho Chang, Jenny Weasley, Molly Weasley. And there was Dumbledore.

Reita now has a two day old peeper that looks like a Blue Orpington and she has 5 more eggs to (hopefully) hatch.

If it is a Blue, it will be another purebread.

Can anyone tell me if i need to trim my big boy for fertile eggs or is it only the female you trim. Or do you only trim if there is a fertility problem?

I trimmed both. I didnt know it was needed til my first batch in the incubator most of the orp hen eggs were infertile. had much better luck this last time.. even though I only ended up with 2 because my daughter... but...live and learn.

I trim both the hens and the roos. I know it's time for a re-trim when I get more than an occasional clear upon incubation.

Somewhere back in this thread is a discussion of trimming/plucking. My takeaway was "baseball size area" around the cloaca. Shift the circle UP above it on the girls and DOWN below it on the boys.
