now that I think about it, is that how the blue orp came about mixing orp with andalusian
I've never heard of the Andalusian being associated with the creation of Blue Orps. The original Black Orpington was bred by William Cook in 1886 by crossing Minorcas, Langshans and Plymouth...
I got Suede's name from Blue Suede Shoes. I have nowhere for this cutie to go here. Can't add another rooster or another bird, period, right now, not if I can help it. Hopefully, someone will want this pretty boy for their own eye candy.
I have mistaken a pullet for a cockerel twice that I know of. It's hard when the hens have honking big legs just like the boys. My own hen, Smoky, was mistaken for a cockerel for weeks and weeks. Tree trunk legs, slow feathering, etc. I just happened to notice that her comb wasn't getting larger...
He's got that long legged look and nakedness that is so typical of Orpington males of this age. I have him up for sale in BSA right now, since I'm now 99.9% sure of the sex. Oh, forget it, I'm 100% sure, LOL.
Here are updated pics of the little blue nipper at five weeks old. Darn, I need a new camera! The first pic is to intensely blue--second one is more like the actual gray-lavender color that he is.
That Baize developed early on, but sure, it could be a girl just like its mama, very masculine in the way she developed. Well, as always, time will tell!
Look at this one, a BR pullet, by every sexing rule, but see the pink in the comb at 3 weeks old? I've seen some girls start that pinkening...
I know it's a tad early, but I do see pink in the comb. Also, the way the wings are coming in, it just seems like a male, but his mother feathered out more like am male, too (though her comb wasn't arched and pink at three weeks old) Gosh, I have a Barred Rock pullet, same age, that has pullet...
Was hoping for a pullet to give to a friend, but I fear that it isn't to be. Here is a blue Orp chick, three-and-a-half weeks old, a bit early, but I'm already seeing signs of BOY in the feathering pattern, the arched slightly pink comb, long legs, etc. What do you guys think? If it's male...
