Very pretty!:thumbsup I'm in a similar boat. I have a pretty guy, but too aggressive for us. I posted him for sale but no takers near by so he is headed to auction next week.

Yep. That is how it works but he will allow hobby folks to take eggs if they are available but 4 h gets priority.

Than you all. He comes from great stock. Dr. Bramwell at the University of Arkansas has several heratige breeds that he gives out eggs on. Sumatra are one.

Hello all. I have been super busy but wanted to post a pic of my cockerel that won Reserve Large Fowl at our county fair. He is from an April hatch and I think he is beautiful. On the down side, we are going to have to get rid of him as we are in roo overload. Anyone in Arkansas, Eastern...

They may be a mix but the face on the male reminds me of a White Face Black Spanish. Just a thought.

Wow!! cool looking birds and drawings!!! I have a foot color question on the Sumatras: do the cockrels maintain the yellow on their foot pads? I only have the two and my pullet still has yellow but my cockrel has gone all black. Is that a bad thing for the standard? Thanks.

Hi all. I have a maturity question: my other breeds from the same hatch are beginning to turn red in the comb/face.! They are on 4 months old. How will I know if my Sumatra girl is getting clse to POL? I will be looking for squat behavior but curious about physical changes. Thanks.

Thanks! I can't wait to see how he grows out. We have a mixed flock so he is mainly for eye candy and not breeding but I so enjoy watching and listening to the different breeds. The cluck my Sumatras have is so distinctive. My girl is talking all the time. I have no problem knowing where...

Back to Sumatras: I had my first confirmed sighting of my 3 month old cockrel crowing this morning. I though I had heard him before, but I saw him today. We had 4 cockrels of different breeds from the hatch and two of the others are so vocal, I don't think he could get a crow in. We gave...

Can you both tell me what kind of leash/harness you use? My daughter is dying to try that.

Caj, I've got a pair right now from Dr. Bramwell's eggs. I am going up mid-month to pick up eggs. I'm s,etting for myself as/well as some 4h kids. I had to delay as they were not giving out eggs in early June. Good luck onyour hatch. Did you get other breeds?

So sorry to hear of your loss. "domesticated" predators are always wose than the wild ones. They only kill for fun, not food so it is usually carnage. So glad you had so many cme home.

Thanks. I hope I am able to keep the roo. We run a mixed flock and I do not plan on breeding for hatching but I would love the eye candy that is the Sumatra roo. We have an adorable little frizzle cochin roo so as long as the two work out some boundaries we'll keep both. Unfortunately the...

The black and white one is a black Sumatra, less than a week old. If you notice the legs, they are black on top, yellow on the foot. They turn black all over except the bottom of the foot as they develop. Same here. Not the best pics but hope it helps.

Okay, back pics. I think the first are a male and the second are a female. What do you guys think? Oh yeah, they are 9/10 weeks old. Thanks!
