Good behavior habits to notice with chickens. Thanks

Hah- as I was putting the babies to bed two of the troublemakers ended up in a bottleneck in the brooder. Stand off. Then one chick scratched his head, head quarter turned away The other chick started preening it's wing, now facing away. Oh dear. Now they've forgotten their standoff and all is calm. Off they wander to find a good spot to bed down.

Calming signals- that's the term I couldn't remember. Most species have some type of calming signals as continous fighting is counterproductive. Even humans use calming signals.

Not the prettiest, but I thought I'd take a few pictures of some of my dun sumatras since I didn't have any.

About all you can tell by this photo is his color. Not the prettiest after the visit from the dogs, but alive. This picture was taken today.

Broody dun hen (wasn't in the pens that got attacked). The next 3 photos were taken after I had caught most of them up and put them in a new pen after the attack, so everyone was still very nervous.

The dun that was broody in the pen that got attacked

Dun hen's back to show color (picture didn't turn out too good)

Same hen as above photo. Which were taken today. They are still a little upset. She kept turning in the cage trying to get back to her flock and wouldn't relax.

Gonna have to remember to take some pictures of them once they regrow their feathers.

Just set 15 Sumatra eggs from University of Arkansas.  Here's hoping for a good hatch.  Love these birds.

Caj,

I've got a pair right now from Dr. Bramwell's eggs. I am going up mid-month to pick up eggs. I'm s,etting for myself as/well as some 4h kids. I had to delay as they were not giving out eggs in early June. Good luck onyour hatch. Did you get other breeds?

Preening of self or other group members can be a peace keeping or appeasement behavior. And physical activity reduces stress so it can be a stress reliever.
Okay I will add that to my list as to why it might be something to make sure your birds do.

caj1985 I hope you have a great hatch.

ramerizframing very nice.
