Sumatra Thread!

Hello all! I've been unintentionally lurking...for some reason I couldn't log into BYC from my iPad. Hope everyone is well, good luck zach, Ramirez I hope you're recovering from your dog ordeal.

I got a new pup, a standard poodle, which I had such high hopes would become a perfect chicken guardian....yeah, not so much. My pup cleared a 5 foot fence and promptly picked off two of my new birds from BBB. GRRRRRRRRR. He is now attending chicken etiquette classes at 5 am every morning!

Hope everyone has a fabulous 4rth!

Sorry to hear of your dog problems, hopefully you can get him trained to leave them alone. I think I got my dog issue handled ;) . Happy 4th of July to you as well.

It looks like now I am able to get out to the APA National in Knoxville, TN December 5&6. It is also the Sumatra national, Faverolles Combined 100 anniversity national and some other breed clubs! Are any of you guys planning on attending?

What breeds and how many birds do you think you might try to show in Knoxville?

ChampionSumatra- if you look up the show the contact information is on te website. The entry forms will probably be due some time in late October early to mid November. It's great that you are going
Ramirezframing- there are other breed nationals but those are the only two I know of off the top of my head. I have not 100% decided if I am going to show youth or open or both but I am leaning more twards youth. I want to only show 15 no more than 20-25 birds depending who is in condition. I am definitely brining my white faverolles bantams because they are rare, some salmon bantams and LF. blue and black Sumatra bantam and LF, black and blue Muscovies. Possibly sebrights, Danvers and my Shamos if they look good. I am down to my last Barnevelder and Houdan and they are rare so I don't know about them. It's so far away it's really hard to decide. Anyways I have like 10 birds that are in condition my entire property has feathers every where it looks like I had a predator attack!

Standard Poodles are hunting bird dogs... but they are super smart so I am sure he will get not to retrieve the chickens for you,

I understand it being far off, and a lot depends on what birds are in condition the best when the time comes around. What variety of danvers do you have? My oldest girl is growing out some black, blue, splash quail from a blue quail to blue quail mating (a new breed for us). I bet a lot of the big sumatra breeders are going to be there since it's the sumatra nationals. I think I heard that it might also be the langshan nationals, but I could be wrong on that (I've been asleep since I talked to my friend that was talking about that show).
