I understand it being far off, and a lot depends on what birds are in condition the best when the time comes around. What variety of danvers do you have? My oldest girl is growing out some black, blue, splash quail from a blue quail to blue quail mating (a new breed for us). I bet a lot of the big sumatra breeders are going to be there since it's the sumatra nationals. I think I heard that it might also be the langshan nationals, but I could be wrong on that (I've been asleep since I talked to my friend that was talking about that show).
I raise just quail. They are one of my favorite breeds. As crazy as it sounds Danvers and Sumatras get along very well I raise my LF Sumatra pullets and Danvers together. When Tom picked up some pullets for me at the Crossroads show a couple years ago an when I went to pick then up he had them with one of his Sumatra LF males! I have to get new photos of that bantam blue Sumatra it looks like a pullet an all of he lacing is still holding up!

Quote: Ok thanks. I am probably to old to show in the youth shows anymore, So the open show it is with me. I am going to take some of My best sumatra's that are in perfect condition. I am going to bring some silver spangled hamburg bantams. I think this would be a good opportunity for me to sell my sumatra's and hamburgs at this show.

I have a question and it's not meant to offend anyone but to give
an idea of what is expected if someone shows. I understand breeders
giving birds to junior showers who are new to showing or a maybe even
a new breed other than what they were showing. At what point is it frowned
on to show birds other your own breeding and at what generation of your own
breeding? I have grandkids thinking about showing and e are researching
what, when and where about it all. Thoughts about it are helpful in them doing this.
Thanks.

When I decide to start a new breed I like to bring in two strong lines that I like. From there I will sometimes bring in new birds for a year or two and then pass them along just to add new blood. I only really like to show birds that I have bred and raised myself. To me any generation can be counted as your line that can originate from one person or many other lines. Even te first generation consists of you pairing up birds breedin them hatching eggs and then raising and preparing those offspring for a show. The way that I look at showing is 50/50. 50% of the bird is based on the hard dedication of breeding close to the SOP that should be recognized but the other 50% is the hard work the owner of the bird has to raise and keep the animals healthy and clean so that the animal may be able to win. I encourage and like to see people buying breeding and raising their own birds instead of just buying expensive birds to win but I can not completely disagree because if you do not care for a bird right it will never win. So I am kinda in the middle. I would love to hear how other people feel?

So beginning showers should be showing only the birds they have bred but can be first generation
from what they have bred? Experienced showers should definitely be showing only their own
breeding even if it is a new breed for them?

It is really up to you in your opinion. I know some people who feel only birds that are shown should be bred by the person showing them. In my opinion as long as you put in the effort for caring for the animal you could show it as an inexperienced shower but you should strive to try and show more of or all from your own breeding because a win is a win but the feeling of knowing you paired those birds, collected the eggs, hatched them, raised them and cleaned them for a show is an amazing feeling. Again this is how I feel and I do not get angered by youth who show birds they bought because they are the future of te fancy ad should strive for more not be shot down by others. But I would love to hear what other people think if they agree or disagree I am also open to hearing everyone's side on this!

I don't know how the breeders and experienced showers feel about the
beginners starting out showing birds they did not breed and this is what
I was trying to find out. I'm not judging anyone.......just trying to find out
what is the right way if the grandkids do show. Thank you for answering
the question.....it helps to know what to do.
