Sumatra Thread!

I am so sorry to hear that. That is horrible. I show rabbits, dairy goats and poultry and used to show horses and I have never heard of something that bad. I had a friend who had feathers on his birds pulled so that they would loose and the person I bought my original Muscovy stock from have his show cards move around so someone could try and swap his birds for their own.
Switching cards & messing with anyone's birds is also not cool. But there are always a few people who think they can get away with this stuff, they do usually get busted.

I've heard of birds being stolen or feathers pulled (girl was collecting them for the hair bows she was making from what I read) but nothing near as bad as hurting an animal. Hope it never happens again. Good luck with any future showing Lauravonsmurf.

I am currently not showing, but I would like to in the future. My kids are all grown up, and I was the support for the showers not the showee, I did learn from attending though. Mom is now Grandma researching her dream birds... to keep and maybe show. I need to widle down the list of birds I want. I am purposefully taking it slow, allot of new info since we had birds, new diseases, new equipment, & available breeds since then.

I think bantams are the direction I want to go this time, last time I kept birds we where all LF, though I do want to replace the VN Jungle Fowl we once kept, loved those birds, Sumatras are on my want to try list for sure.

here is an update on my blue chicks.

This one is a cockerel. In the light of the sun each of his feathers has greenish lacing. I don't know if you can see it in this photo.

this one is younger than the top. So far I am liking the color of this one the best. What are all your thoughts on their color so far, don't be scared to insult me.

Here are some of my blue and black sumatra from a dixie line to me these are better then the black and blue line also. Look at the lacing on the blue's even the wing feathers and tail feathers have great black lacing. There is not one di

scolored feather on them either they are perfect, Tell me What You think. There combs are straight no curve what so ever so amazing there face are real real black best part is there color is even also not one cull bird in the bunch......

Welcome to the sumatra thread, good luck with your birds.

Thank You kindly and they are for my son for 4-h shows I intend to hatch out 100 birds from these and cull the bad ones out over a year period and keep the best for show.

Hi all, apologies for my absence i have been ill and not been on here much.

My dad has bought me a makita jigsaw so I've been building, i am far from finished with this coop but it took me a day to make these frames. It is so fast and easy when using a jigsaw!
