    More on shafting.. I have this mix breed hen and I noticed her quills are more of what typical shafting is? Can someone confirm that this is shafting? Sorry to post another bird other than a BCM, just want clarification on this trait.

    Thanks for the sound advice snowbird. I have a winter to research, learn and figure out what I'll do in the spring. I wouldn't mind finding a couple hens to out cross with, but for now I need to just get through winter. Maybe next spring I'll find something.

    They are young.. about 5 months old. I'll try to see if I can find the name of the lady I bought the chicks from. She's from Otter Lake, MI. Said she bought her starter birds from a lady who had some at a show. I found an add on CL and wanted the darker eggs for the color contrast in my egg basket.
