These guys are my first Marans. I bought 6 chicks from a lady near me and I kept 2 roosters and 2 hens.
Which roo do you guys like better?

I fail to see anything in either one to fault.They both look real nice to me, Can you post who they came from?

This male has a little too much Copper on the breast but would be good to raise some pullets with good copper Hackles.

I like the looks of #2, but I am just beginning to learn about the standard.

There's a bit too much copper for showing, but I would keep both. It is better to have a heir and a spare- don't cull yourself into a corner if something happens to your main breeder.

They are young.. about 5 months old.
I'll try to see if I can find the name of the lady I bought the chicks from.
She's from Otter Lake, MI. Said she bought her starter birds from a lady who had some at a show. I found an add on CL and wanted the darker eggs for the color contrast in my egg basket.

If that is a white wing feather he would be a cull at my place. I never breed to Marans with white in Hackle, Wing and tail.

No white feathers anywhere. That one pic might be some fluff showing. I will try tomorrow morning for some better pics.
