what a roller coaster this has been. Dr. Z. called to say that Precious looked good and she could go home tomorrow and then she called me five minutes later and said "I'm so sorry, I know I just called with good news but I'm afraid I have bad news now. We went to give her her nightly treatment...
Talked with Dr. Zyra this morning and she said Precious is coming along beautifully! She said the eye looked much better and she wanted to keep her one more day, so I guess I'll be bringing my girl home tomorrow!
Dr. Zyra called tonight and said that Precious is "comfortable." They are tube feeding, giving fluids, antibiotics, eye drops, the works! she couldn't be in a better place!
I do feel lucky, she saved the life of one of my blue cochins a couple of months ago. I had to really search for a vet that would treat chickens, I couldn't find anyone near me which is odd because I live in a very rural farming area! Dr. Z. is about an hour away but I gladly make the drive...
Miss Precious' eye didn't look any better except I did what Dawg53 suggested and held a warm compress on it and an icky thing that looked like a scab came off so that had to be good but the eye still didn't look good. I put the ointment on and called the vet as soon as I could. I love this vet...
Precious has not really been eating since this eye thing started but I've been spoon feeding her baby applesauce with sweet potato, Kefir, baby parrot formula, and water. I also make a parrot mash for my "indoor" birds out a bunch of grains, beans, veggies, and fruit and I whipped some up with...
here is the latest picture. I think it looks better but maybe not better but different? I've been washing with saline 3 X daily and applying the terramycin. The eye looks more open but it looks like there's something over the eye. I don't know if it's something that should come out, like pus or...

Yes, it does look pretty scary! I have Precious in a carrier in the furnace room and go and try to get water or food into her every couple of hours. She's been drinking water from a teaspoon and doing pretty good. She drinks an entire teaspoon full. I have some baby parrot formula that...

She's been away from the flock for 3 or 4 days. I took her to the vet and she said conjunctivitis which BTW I do know is pinkeye! She gave me opthalmic ointment to put in 2X daily, so Sandy, you are right on! thank you!
got home and the eye was totally closed with a drop of dark yellow gooey looking stuff on the lid and it's more swollen. I gently washed the eye with plain warm water on a cotton ball, dried it with a cotton ball, and liberally applied Neosporin. I'm calling the vet but does anyone have any...
Precious is about the same today EXCEPT her eye seems much worse, very swollen. I have some neosporin WITHOUT pain reliever that I'm about to put on the eye. I just flushed it with plain warm water. She ate a little Kefir today with vitamin E and some liquid B complex and I will give poly vi sol...
Miss Lydia has been an ENORMOUS source of information and support and I so appreciate the time she has taken to answer each and every one of my PM's. But I was wondering if anyone had any further information on foods to tempt Miss Precious. I think she may be having a reoccurance of wry neck...
