Ughh, sorry to hear that. I had a time herding my ducks in last night as well. They really didn't want to go into a dark house. Power was out here for 12 hours or so as well.

Haha same here! It's weeks like this that I'm glad I have ducks. You would think they are in paradise now... Quote: I have had a large red tailed move in recently. Not losses to date, I'm hoping it has easier prey than ducks. Are the BOPs taking your pigeons?

@hobbychicken - Sorry no experience with call ducks here. Have you checked any of their eggs to make sure they are fertile? Also, I have heard call ducks are difficult to hatch. Might try on the duck forums. @bairo - Nice write up on the cooler-bator. I would assume you could use a smaller...

The sun! It BURNS!! Actually I have started digging a hole in the yard. It may or may not turn into a pond/puddle? I'll post a picture if it ever turns in to something.

I wake up and leave for work in the dark. I get home, it's dark. I'm just work hibernating for the next few months, once I see daylight again maybe I'll have something to write about

@ AJ - Sorry for your loss, thoughts and prayers for you and your family. @ dncarr09 - I got my first birds from PH. I can say that they are healthy birds and I haven't had any problems with them. The man I dealt with was pleasant and friendly enough. However, hey don't breed to standard...

I bet I could setup a fodder system pretty easily with my existing aquaponics. Since there doesn't appear to be any reason to flood/drain the grow flats, a diverted hose could just trickle water through a bunch of them constantly. One snag point would be some sort of filter for the grain...

I currently have 1 dane and had two at one point. Pretty much 2x on everything Angie says. I will add that the male I owned was fairly protective. He chased off a couple of guys selling meat in the back of their pickup and bit someone who got too close to my wife asking about air conditioners...

I keep mine inside and added rice to the oat or feed mixture. Also, put the vegetable scraps on a piece of cardboard or paper towel to keep mold down, cardboard or old egg carton worked best for me. ETA: Just some photos from sweet potato harvest. I usually feed reject potatoes to mealworms...

I set up a mealworm farm last year. I started off with 2 dozen and now I'm at around 500, haven't really counted them. There is a good thread on this site in the feed section called mealworm farming. If you just read the first 15 or so pages you will get all the info you need to start. Biggest...

The lawn chair was in the young ducklings pen to get a closer view for "duck tv". They apparently got curious about it and Shells, thus named because she always tried to stick her head back into her shell after hatching, stuck her head in a spot that was tight enough and just high enough that...

Dogs have been great livestock guardians for me thus far. I've yet to lose a bird to predators in over a year (knock on wood). It's been about 9 months since I started letting them free range sun-up to sun-down and my only death has been accidental hanging on a lawn chair .
