congrats on the light. I hope it works for you. I am currently researching mealworms. I think I may give it a try. Does anyone mealworm farm?
I set up a mealworm farm last year. I started off with 2 dozen and now I'm at around 500, haven't really counted them. There is a good thread on this site in the feed section called mealworm farming. If you just read the first 15 or so pages you will get all the info you need to start. Biggest consideration for our climate is the humidity, mealworms like it dry.

thank you. I have been on that thread. I ordered mine last night so I will be getting set up for them. I guess with our climate they need to stay inside away from the humidity. The way I look at it I am only going to loose a few bucks if it doesn't work.

I keep mine inside and added rice to the oat or feed mixture. Also, put the vegetable scraps on a piece of cardboard or paper towel to keep mold down, cardboard or old egg carton worked best for me.

ETA: Just some photos from sweet potato harvest. I usually feed reject potatoes to mealworms.

Can you tell who was proud of himself for getting to show off the "prize" potato?

I think it'll be Weds. or Thurs. when I get them, fingers crossed for Weds since I'll be home that day, Thurs is a school night.

Stats on my eggs that just hatched

I set 22 (including a few of my older ones)
4 were not fertile leaving 18
13 out of the 18 hatched giving me a 72% hatch rate
I lost 2 after hatch, leaving 11 healthy and happy. A 61% total survival rate

Not the best I have had..but pretty good considering they were shipped and some were a week old. Also the few I threw in were older and my fertility rate had been crap before that.

Out of those 11 I can see 4 boys and 2 obvious blues with 1 maybe blue

now...what are you getting???
11 Orps (English x American + split Lav.. I think will have to ask she said she consolidated them to one pen for winter) and 12 Swedish Flower Hens, needed something extra in the shipment because I knew she'd not get enough Orp eggs to fill my order, and since I was paying shipping for 20 egg box I was going to get SOMETHING! LOL
