So today is day 21, and I was in the henhouse getting eggs from the OTHER nest (i.e., the one that non-broodies are laying in), and I could hear something stirring under the broody. Much to her dismay, I lifted her slightly and took a peek. Definitely has at least 1 chick under her so far...

Olga update... here she is with one of her chicks. We have determined that it is a Delaware/EE cross. Two of those hatched! I love broody mama & chickie pictures.

Olga and her babies tolerated the move to the dog crate *fairly* well. I was able to finally get a final determination of how many chicks hatched... my girl hatched 8 out of 10! The two still in the nest were "sloshy", so she did well. 80% hatch rate... good girl!

That's what I figured 'cuz that's what I do in the bator. Thank you! This is only day 22, so we're good. Besides, who knows what I'm going to find in the nest when I get out there this morning?? Hehehe.

When should I remove the unhatched eggs from under the broody? The rest of the eggs hatched Saturday & Sunday, and I think there are still 2 under her.
