Hey Chickette 1, this is our second year of broodys but I only had 3 of the 9 that were seasoned, [so to speak] so it has been interesting lol. now i have a broody duck who will be a first time mama can't wait to see how that goes, she is probably 2 years old because she was broody most of the summer last year and we battled all summer trying to keep her and another duck from sitting the whole time, so this year I gave in and let her have 3 eggs, [hoping for all girls] she is the happiest little thing you ever saw, but will eat you up if she thinks you might want to look at her eggs. they are due to hatch on Thurs or Fri. All the chickens have to walk by her bedroom to get to their side of the coop. They are probably on tippy toes.. lol hope your babies are doing good.

this will be # 5. I had to break little "blue" of her brood. This one is sitting in a safe spot.... so if I don't tell my wife she is on the porch, on eggs.... I'll be good.
And thanks...I'm really good to my chickens! I just love my Sumatra's.
I really enjoyed the 2 hatches that I had and would love to let them all sit on all the eggs they wanted but what in heavens name does one do with all the babies? I did not plan on hatching any eggs but felt so badly for the hens that I let them have a few. Maybe it was lucky that only a couple hatched. Don't know what I would have done with 6 more! I need a baby chick outlet
Miss Lydia, what do you have more of .........chickens or ducks? You said this was only your 2nd go around with broodys?
I'm worried about Molly's smallest chick. He's still itty bitty at almost 2 weeks old, has feathers on his wings, but doesn't seem to want to use them at all. They look a little droopy now that I got a better look at him today. He's starting to get left inside the coop because he doesn't flap his wings to get up to the pop door threshold. Any ideas?
whats the latest eggs can hatch under a broody? i have 1 sitting on 10 eggs atm, they look developed but we are going on day 23 with no pipping or hatching
