You are correct . Culling is my personal policy and may not be right for everyone . I may even have Mycoplasma in my flock . No symptoms . Which is not unusual . I did cull 2 pullets early in my Legbar flock for showing Mycoplasma symptoms . Tough decision considering what I paid for the first...
Recessive white . They pop up sometimes . So your rooster and at least 1 hen carry recessive white . https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/827877/white-sport-cream-legbars/390#post_18205518
I fear Legbar are too inbred and need a shot of new blood . I have had mine going on 3 years . Lost or actually culled a hen and pullet that got sick . I do not allow sick birds to recover .
My hybrids do great .
I crossed to light brown Leghorn last year and raised 1 cockerel that I hatched...
Not really . This is just a starting point for me . I like the auto sexing but do not like frozen combs or crooked combs from the crest . I do not want to fuss with fellow Ameraucana breeders over leg color and the barring gene . So no silver crele Ameraucana . I feel any comb change on Legbar...
The top bird is single barred . He is darker and has a black feather in his tail . The bottom bird has 2 barring genes . Lighter in color and no solid black feather .
It must not be much of a problem in the UK . In the USA it is . I am wondering why nobody has added a V comb . Most crested breeds have them . It solves 2 problems at once . No frostbite and no scrunched combs from the crest . Maybe we need a American CCL .
I knew Jeanette before she became a judge . Used to be active in the Ameraucana Club . She knows how hard it can be for a new breed . Very nice lady . The fact that she took the time to read your breed standard says a lot .
I now have a trio of CCL thanks to Tripell . About 14 weeks old . Shipped eggs got me zero . I knew the risk on shipped eggs but usually get a couple .
I had a wheaten ameraucana pullet last year start out laying white eggs then turn blue. She laid about 3 white eggs. So maybe her color has not started to produce yet.
