I've been out of pocket visiting relatives; someone else has been looking after my incubators. Well, I get back and decide to toss some hen eggs that were in the incubator for 27 days... but some of them were cheeping! Holy smoke, who ever heard of chicken eggs hatching on day 27??? I guess...
Next batch goes into lockdown tomorrow (Friday). There has been no sign of activity on the Japanese bantam eggs. Perhaps the power outages made them a bit later than normal. That's what I'm hoping!
Go, chickies, go!
My partner in Chicken Math locked down a dozen eggs the day before yesterday; one has hatched, and there are three more with pips! Two are the Leghorns we need for our laying flock, and I hope they're both hens. I'm gnawing my nails to the elbow today!
Just finished my Easter hatch and now I'm gnawing my fingernails up to the elbows, waiting for this batch to go into lockdown. I hope there are loads of fuzzy butts for everyone!
That was a bad storm front that moved thru. I'm glad that the power stayed on, as well! My partner in Chicken Math is having to re-attach some roofing on his chicken house. Loads of folks lost storage buildings etc. Thank goodness I'm "under" the crest of the hill, so the winds didn't get me...
My Silkie-X weren't hard to hatch at all; I'm just now trying pure Silkies. These are shipped eggs, so I expect a bit of loss on them. If I get one rooster and one hen out of the 14 eggs, I will be thrilled. If I get just one, I'm hoping for a rooster. More chances to get the characteristics...
I set 8 black-tailed white japanese bantam eggs today. Crossing my fingers for a decent hatch! If I get two chicks grown to maturity and one of them has the short legs called for by SQ standards, I'll be *super super* happy.
Good luck to everyone hatching around this time!
