Howdy. In my opinion, open air coops are best with the humidity and heat we have. Mine has three full sides with the south side open for full air. Their run is an electric netting fence that they have full access to during the day. Edit to add that some people have super open air, more like...

I haven't received notifications to this thread in months and months. I hope everyone is doing well!! Flu-Rona is on the rise out here in Leflore, and this crazy weather is about to drive me crazy too! Hope everyone has great holidays.

Bantams won't give you large eggs, if that's what you're wanting. You'll want breeds like Leghorns, Marans, Orpingtons, Barred Rocks and Dominiques if you're wanting large eggs.

Yummy morels! Very nice find. I was so worried about calves born in that deep freeze, but I'm glad y'all didn't lose power and everyone is okay!

Vaseline is an oil based application but it locks in moisture. It often makes frostbite worse.

East side of the state hasn't gotten any snow for a few weeks, but my birds hated it when we had it. They wouldn't walk on it or anything 😂

The cold weather's got my birds all in a tizzy. Granted I've only got 8 hens, I only got 3 eggs today. Lil boogers. I got my hands on a little Brinsea 7 Egg incubator, the Mini Advance 2. I feel horrible since it's usually not this cold this time of year (at least in my part of OK), so now I'm...

I'm so sorry about your losses, too! Dogs never fail to get all the ones you want to keep. :/ I hope your Ameraucana chicks do well and thrive! Get all those pretty eggs and pretty birds. Seramas are such cute little birds, though. ♥ What all colors have you got?

Oh man. I'm so sorry y'all lost so much last year. It's always rough when you lose them. Hopefully the bobcats and owls leave y'all alone this year. It really does seem like your best options for your pens are the first ones to get sick! It's so aggravating at times.

Agreed! I miss seeing everyone update on here. I know I was inactive for a bit, but there's lots of faces I haven't seen since the site update. I don't remember where they all migrated to, though. If anyone is interested, I did make a facebook group here...

Agreed! I remember the rework, and a lot of people decided to move to another website afterward. I thought about making an Okie Facebook chicken group, but I'm not sure how many people would be interested.

Hi everyone!! It's been nearly two years since I've posted to BYC it feels like! A year ago I moved to FL and now I'll be moving back a year and a half later. This place is rough! Hardly any animals allowed and I'm dying. I hope all of y'all have been well! :)

Hi NanaKat! I was wondering if you're breeding any of your Wyandottes for sale? I sold all my birds and would like to start a new flock of Wyandottes or Orpingtons!

I might have to go and sort through some of mine too, then, or just bookmark our crazy Okie thread! ;P Where do you live to get ice storms? Send that my way, please. I want to throw my birds out in the snow for the first time. Definitely sounds like yall are ready for sure! Hopefully it won't...

I don't get it either!! Chickens are silly. I can see why you'd be concerned though with the molt, for sure!! Hopefully they break from their broodiness pretty easy for you.

Also, has anyone here ever ordered from a site/business called Grubblies? http://grubblyfarms.com I'm interested in getting a bag, since I learned my girls love maggots and fly larvae (gag). If not, I'll try to order some and give a little review on how they like them.

Phew. Hi everyone!! I hope everyone's been well, and yalls critters are safe with this heat! I hatched some babies two months ago and they're looking so good! One of my silly barnyard mutts has decided to go broody in this heat and I know she's miserable. Silly little bird Anyway, I hope...
