I have had a serious sinus infection since Saturday. Nose stopped up, draining, coughing, etc. When I woke up Saturday morning and let my dogs out, all I smelled was smoke in the air. I was probably breathing it in all night. Feel awful. Several people told me they have the same thing...

That is great news. We are still hoping it doesn't move any farther North here. With the wind change coming in today, we may not have to worry so much. Got worried yesterday because we started getting some large ash from the oak leaves. Watered my grass all day. Still praying for rain...

We are on pins and needles here due to the fires. They are still spreading. The news channels are NOT doing a good job of covering the Little Axe fires. Fortunately for us we all tap into the online scanners. The fire has crossed to the North side of Hwy 9 and they are set up at 168th...

I know. Some roos are so rough with the hens that you want to knock them over.

Thank you Elbert. They are actually much larger in person than in these pics.

It is always a possibility the coon could be rabid but this heat is driving animals to take bigger risk than usual. They are hot, thirsty and hungry I guess. It is good you got it before it got your NN. Kass, so sorry you lost one today. I hope you catch the critter that did it.

I took a couple of pics of my Lavender Orps. They are about 6 months old now. Still waiting for their first egg. Gonna have to get rid of some of the roos because I have 2, maybe 3 hens and 5-6 roos. The roosters pull each others tails out I guess trying to make the others look bad. LOL

This heat is just too much! Everyday when I get home I am so afraid of finding all of my chickens dead. I hope not. I have done everything I can do. I have a mister fan in one area along with a canopy under a tree and a mister with a fan behind it on another pen. So far so good, but I worry...

I found a pair of very small needlenose wire cutters at Lowes in the tool department. They work great for hardware cloth and were about 9.99.

I noticed that Lowes now has a mister fan. They are not cheap but range from 60.00 - 150.00 The most expensive one looks like a regular fan that you plug in and I think there is a reservoir for the water. Neat idea. Maybe they will eventually come down on the prices.

I know that we all have different opinions on snakes. For me, they give me the creeps. I have two sons that pick up any snake but I can hardly bring myself even close enough to kill one. I usually scream for someone else, unless the snake is very small like a pygmy. I love my eggs, chicks...

I got my first egg yesterday from the Ginger Reds I bought at N.E.O.C.S. last month. I guess she finally got comfortable enough to lay. They went through alot while waiting on me to build them a coop. Couldn't help myself. It was love at first sight! Had to have em, before I had a place...

Most people sex them by the wings. It can only be done during the first one to two days. After that, it is a waiting game until they either color out or crow. LOL

I bought a mister and hooked it up to the garden hose. I turn it on before I leave for work. The chickens love it. They run through it at first but eventually, they figure out that it is cool and refreshing.

Are they saying that the food producers are putting the antibiotics in the feed and not listing it on the bag or in the ingredient list? I would hope not. They could build up resistance to antibiotics when they ever do get sick or need them.

I liked chickens, when chickens weren't cool!
