Oh, my gosh. Probably about $160 total. I had to pay the vet to draw the blood, and that visit was $45 for four hens. Then OSU charged me around $100 to do two separate necropsies.
I should have known better, honestly. I bought my first flock from craigslist when they were all 8 weeks old. The rooster had runny eyes and was sneezing. I asked what was wrong with him, and the guy claimed he had just cleaned the cage and there was a lot of dust kicked up and the rooster had...
I haven't dealt with that disease specifically, but I had to depopulate last year for mycoplasma gallisepticum. I have a zero tolerance for respiratory illnesses on the place. I'll treat injuries, and I'll worm my chickens, but I don't ever want to hear sneezes and sniffles. I definitely...
Ha! I love those. I was grinning through the brooder pics, but when I got to the chicks outside, I just flat out guffawed. Had to take a break before the next one and it got me going again!
"Redneck entertainment" LOL! That's true. That mirror has been a source of endless entertainment for me.
This video is of one of the male guineas fighting with himself in the mirror. He was bottom man on the totem pole and everyone else beat him up. He would wait until they all went inside to...
Midnight is fascinated by the chickens. She is sure she is supposed to herd them. I can't let her out with them unsupervised because she'll just start circling them and get them all bunched up together. If they stay put, she stays put, but if one moves she's off to get it back. I've never seen...
Guineas love to look at themselves in mirrors. I read somewhere to put a mirror on their pen so they wouldn't fly up and sit by the house and poop all over the porch while they're staring in the windows. Here's my guinea mirror:
One of my Dominique roosters found it quite threatening.
I repaired one with pure beeswax once.

After
It didn't hatch. Nothing hatched that time. I was gathering eggs when it was 114 degrees outside so I think my rooster was shootin' blanks. But it didn't grow bacteria either, so that's something, right?
If you think you might want him soon-ish, I'll hang on to him for you. I was going to keep him and sell him with two pullets later this fall, but as crappy as my hatches have been, I'm not honestly sure I'll have any pullets to spare.
