Earlene Henny laid her first egg yesterday at 24 weeks and 4 days of age. She hatched two days early and was the only chick to hatch from the eggs that were out if heat for hours from the tornado back in March. I was so tickled over that egg!
Got my first pullet eggs! Day before yesterday and again today! OAC 179 color. Now my other pullet needs to get with the program and start laying also!
I had to go out and look at him. It is the lighting, not yellow. No sprigs either. Hope the pullets small combs will help reduce the next generations comb size. The pullet in the back has a very small comb.
16 weeks old. Comb is too big, but how is the rest looking?
Pullet in front has developed a red face this week and is clucking and singing the eggs song. These girls are also 16 weeks.
Thanks y'all. I hope Vaudy Crowther stays as nice and doesn't get much more color to him. He still had some wavy in his comb but not as much as it was a month ago. I don't think he will have a straight comb but hopefully I will get some better offspring from him to work with. Fair Olen, the...
My cream Legbar cockerel started crowing Friday. And is scratching and calling the pullets over. He is hopping at them the past few days also. They are 10 weeks old. I thought it would be a few more weeks before his hormones kicked in !
10 weeks old. Such different looking CLB girls. (Ignore the Sulmtalers in the background, they are photo hogs!)
He crowed for the first time this morning, so cute and pitiful.
Bad comb but not leaking red yet on his back. See the barring on the tail of my CLB girl in front of him!
The spotty girl looks so much like a crele oegb hen. She has some barring on her tail. The spots are not so much random but seem to line up in rings if you were to connect the spots. It will be interesting to see what she looks like as she gets older. They are right at two months old now.
Ugh my motley crew. One female has lots of white spottiness one female is gold and my male has a wicked twisted comb. I have a pair that is almost three weeks old. I sure hope they turn out better. If not I will use them for layers.
Brrrrrr 45 degrees here in Alabama this morning. This is THE coldest spring overall on record ever for us here. Normally Memorial Day weekend "summer" is in full hot humid swing. Safe weekend to everyone.
2/15 cream legbar eggs hatched Tuesday 5-14-13. I dont know if they will make it. It has to be humidity. I did a dry incubation for the first 17 days and then did 60% for lockdown. These two hatched with omphalitis. Eggs were not dirty. hovabator double sanitized. They are eating and drinking...
I think I could do a X2 quote on what you posted. I hatched ONE chick. So 1/36 eggs. I bought a pair of chicks over in Georgia, so I have a trio that is about a month old now. BUT I currently have 9 eggs in lockdown and I am trying something different. They are due to hatch tomorrow, but I have...
Yes I will plan on keeping him around and any roos that hatch this week and then in late winter/early spring make my decision on who stays and who goes.
