I have that mix and am hoping she lays olive. I also have Ameraucana/CL cross and a marans/CL cross. I was told by the marans breeder that her CLs eggs are too light and the mix will lay brown. :/
How is his egg color? Like Fire, I don't have the time space to dedicated to growing out and helping better the breed but I would really like a couple more that would lay really blue eggs. Mine from ChicKat is still waiting to lay and then it sounds like my friends extra chicks from Meyer will...
Thanks, ChicKat! I'm still in love with Marzipan! People on UT groups all seem to say that their CLs aren't friendly and then they get rid of them for personality and egg size/color disappointment but my gal from you is such a doll! She's so curious and friendly!
I'm also wondering if anyone had info on CLs from Papa's Poultry. There's a person on my local-ish chicken group that was asking for CL advice and he was thinking of getting them from there.
Has anyone gotten any CL chicks from Meyer? I have a friend who thinks she may have gotten some some as mystery chicks in a recent shipment and offered them to me. So far I only have my one girl out of ChicKat's eggs and I'd really like a couple more.
ChicKat, not mine but I couldn't resist sharing. :). I still only have the one sweetheart I hatched from you. Maybe I'll get to put her in the spring show! :D
I only have one CL so I'm interested in seeing the others' critiques of these birds, too. My little girl is much more cream in the neck than these two. We are thinking of getting involved with this chicken group so Im trying to see how my pullet compares.
Not a great pic, but you can see my...
Just wanted to share that we went to the Utah Fancy Poultry Association show yesterday and there were only 2 Cream Legbars - a hen and a roo. (ChicKat only 2 isbars, too) I took some pics. :)
They aren't Legbars but some of my hens started squatting long before they laid and some lay and still don't squat for me. The best indicator I've found for me is checking the birds pelvic bones. When they are young they are very close together and there's no space between them. They slowly move...
At what age do you really start critiquing your grow outs? I'd really like to start a CL project since experience with chicks found in my area has not been good and autosexing extremely lacking. I've learned a lot from following this group but have so much to learn. I absolutely love the one CL...
After my ordeal with the muted color "pullets" that ended up being cockerels, I'm very happy to say that I'm the proud mama of a CL pullet thanks to ChicKat! Here's some pics of my pretty little girl that hatched last night and her hatch mates, 2 silkies and an OE.
Here's some updated pics of these two. They are about 5 weeks now. I'm happy to say that today the breeder finally agreed that they are not the right coloring, are most likely cockerels and agreed to take them back! Yay! Thanks to this awesome forum for your support. You all are great!
