Cream Legbars

Hello, Happy New Year everyone! Here are my 2 Cream legbar Roosters and 2 hens. I wanted to get peoples thoughts on them. The roosters are about 9 months and the hens are around 2 years. I am trying to decide which roosters to keep for breeding. The hens do not have a good crest at all, my best 2 with crests were 9 month pullets and one flew out of the run and a dog got it and the other was just dead in the nesting box a week ago with no ill signs before hand. I think she was egg bound but dont know for sure.
The deal with the roosters is: 1 is larger and has the floppy comb which i know isnt ideal, the other is smaller but a more straight comb with a little flop in it. Both have great color, no bronze and are overall really nice. I dont know what exactly I am looking for even after reading the standards.
Both hens lay nice large light blue eggs. Not quite as blue as I would like but blue'er than my easter eggers.
Please give me your thoughts and dont hold back. Its all i have to work with so I will be breeding these either way, I guess the roosters is the only thing up in the air at this point. I dont have the money to invest into more, they are expensive and with just losing the 2 pullets, my most expensive of all 28 birds really by far. Just bad luck. She was the only bird that has ever flown out of the run and the other one was my 1st that I have had die since my oldest hen died/froze in Feb.
thanks for your thoughts.

I'm not going to try and post anymore picture. My Apple computer is having some really bad malfunction, and posting other picture directly from the thread that I don't want, never downloaded either. So much for technology lol :(:/

Hi I'm desperately looking for auto-sexing chickens the produce mint green eggs. I read the cream legbars do, but have been so,far unsuccessful in my attempt tp secure hatching eggs. Thus I'm putting it out there that I want them and will pay for them 12 eggs come this March. Below is the color I want.

The cream legbar only has one colour,
The picture you have that you want that colour is just a picture of a young cream legbar
It will change feathers as it gets older

I'm also wondering if anyone had info on CLs from Papa's Poultry. There's a person on my local-ish chicken group that was asking for CL advice and he was thinking of getting them from there.

Has anyone gotten any CL chicks from Meyer? I have a friend who thinks she may have gotten some some as mystery chicks in a recent shipment and offered them to me. So far I only have my one girl out of ChicKat's eggs and I'd really like a couple more.
Hi !
Maybe byc member Fire ant Farm got hers from there--- I know that she got some from a hatchery-- not sure which one. She has some really good egg production going on ! perhaps you could PM her?

I think that MyPetChicken has CLs as well. You are smart to start looking early -- because usually they do sell out pretty fast. Good luck!

Thanks, ChicKat! I'm still in love with Marzipan! People on UT groups all seem to say that their CLs aren't friendly and then they get rid of them for personality and egg size/color disappointment but my gal from you is such a doll! She's so curious and friendly!

I have a CL rooster over Welsummers, which should be auto-sexing and lay a green egg (maybe darker than mint), look similar to your posted pic. They might not be in the same breeding pen in March? There may be others with similar matches out there.

Feel free to correct my auto-sexing assumption?

Hi, don't worry too much about the flop in the comb, look at the cockerel's body type first. Knowledgeable breeders have suggested waiting a year to choose, and I would agree that the roosters change quite a bit in that time. As you grow them out for shape, also look at body color, barring patterns, yellow legs, and the finer points of the SOP.

I have had a variety pack of rooster colors, would like to see some additional pictures of your roosters to consider their color and pattern.

Working with what you have and developing your own line is part and parcel of breeding. If you can keep both roosters, you can either rotate them with the hens and compare the offspring, or just divide the hens up between the two roosters. It may help you to get the next generation that you are looking for.

Happy New Year!
