Ninya started laying eggs in Nov 15. She has laid an egg every other day except twice when she went two days between.
So 35 eggs later, when should she stop or will she?
Her eggs are gorgeous and Charlie is very protective when she is in the coop laying her egg. she covers it with straw...
Our temperatures dropped to 27 last night with 3to6 inches of snow predicted. Yesterday I moved Ninya and Charlie into a pen in the barn near a window where they would get sunlight and cut two buckets of winter rye for them for the next two days.
Ninya laid an egg this morning and we didn't get...
Now that Ninya is laying, it has been every other day. Will this continue thru winter or will she slack off?
Since she had a slipped tendon, I'm thinking this could be hereditary. Thus I'm thinking she should not cover a set of her own eggs. About when in the spring do geese go broody? I...
Awwww, they are gorgeous!
And look what Ninya did today! Her egg is in the upper right.
Clockwise compared to an Australorp chicken, a quarter, a pullet egg and three bantie eggs.
I wasn't home when she laid her egg. Do geese sing an egg song like my chickens?
Thank you. I think so too. My brother-in-law is not well liked by gander Charlie. He charges the BIL all the time and "yells" (honks loudly) at him. I guess geese know who doesn't appreciate them.
BIL is always teasing "If you split it's tongue will it be more quiet" or "When are you...
Thought I'd post a few new pictures of Ninya and Charlie and give an up-date on them.
In the background in the first picture is their goose house in the goose yard. It still needs a coat of paint and some shingles but it is cozy and blocks the winds. We have had temps in the mid to low 30s...
Pretty girl.
Was out taking pictures of some Cochin roos for comparison purposes and the gees came up to see what I ws doing. They began preening and talking...so they got their pcitures taken too.
Charlie
and Ninya.
Here is an update on Ninya and Charlie....why is it that a pile of dirt makes any animal play "King of the Mountain"?
And the pair has gotten brave enough to free-range in the front cattle lot...under guard of course...
Nine and April are gorgeous!!
Iain..those granders are truly handsome.
Well, Charlotte is now Charlie.
Vent checking was easier than I thought it would be. Just followed the instructions in the Holderrand book. The nice drawings in the book were very helpful.
I think if I had waited...
Questions...I'm thinking Charlotte may really be a Chad...just on behavior.
Her knob has gotten pretty big and now she has started fronting me and has nipped me several times. I've had to discipline her.
She lets me know ...loudly... that the food bowl is getting low and that the pool needs...
We had photo day this week..even in the heat. Mornings are still cool enough for a little activity but afternoons are in the 100s. Today it is already 114 degrees.
Bath time. Charlotte waits her turn.
We are both getting knobs
Ninya Lookin' good!
We nibble everything
Mom, I smell...
