oh wow. Makes me nervous starting up my incubator this weekend! Had such good luck the first time but this last time was rough... Not only sleep less nights and stress but wasted money... I decided not to give up just yet, lots of learning to do...
Thank you for the info. It's great having knowledgeable people willing to share their knowledge and experience. I have learned so much from BYC and expect to learn so much more.
Just curious, are you using more thank one hydrometer? Maybe it's not accurate? Also I did the dry hatch method this time and I really think it allowed the air cells to be too big and the chicks couldn't position correctly. Maybe that is what made them drown for you? Plus what did you mean...
I had the same thing happen last hatch... Very disappointing. I ended up having to help several and the last 2 I helped which would have never made it out have since died after 3 days of nursing... I don't know what drops the humidity like that but I did read the temp should be around 98 for...
Just finished a hatch on Monday, very stressful one I might add. My temp and humidity went crazy during lockdown. Several thermometers and hydrometer all read different results. First 10 to hatch were great then the others all had problems sticky, couldn't pip, ect. After eggtopsies, many were...
Thanks for your help and info. I'm having a hard time keeping humidity up so I added sponges and it was at 74 and rising. Then I removed them, now staying at 60-62... my room humidity is 33--35 so I was worried they would drown. After my last hatch I thought this would go smoothly but it's so...
Day 21, 12 chicks out of 36 so far... 3 got stuck in the shell... literally glued in... Against what I've read I helped them out. They definitely were ready and would not have made it otherwise. They kept getting stuck on their back and walking funny. One of them seems like it has a crook in...
I agree! I experienced something similar too. It's so stressful yet exciting at the same time. I wasn't sure if I wanted to hatch again but I am ready... Congrats on your hatch!
Mine were in the 20 range and I stressed and whenever i would add water it went up to 40.. but then I found out most people Don't worry about the humidity at all for the first 18 days. The article isn't set in stone but it's very informative.
Your welcome. I just finished my first hatch. Definitely no expert here, lol. It was a great yet stressful experience for me. With all the info out there I still had questions. .. here is the link I found most useful.
