    Thank you all for the nice replies. This was a wonderful roo! There were several others his age in the same area at the time and they all ran under the bushes and hid. He was the one that charged out to save the girls and youngsters the hawk swooped down upon and he did this with no hesitation...

    Not actually free ranging...well I have two totally fenced in areas, one huge yard attached to the chicken houses and another 30 by 100 ft. next to the side of my house which is where I let the broody hens and babies and youngsters and a couple of young roos hang out. This is where the hawk...

    Thank you all...yes, this was a special guy who had a wonderful kind heart to everything and everyone. Cannot stop crying. Tomorrow morning I will bury "Friendly" and we will be watching for Mr. Hawk...don't know what we can do except try to scare him witless. This big guy will swoop right next...

    My brave WR Rooster killed by hawk today...

    Am just devastated.... This morning my very brave White Rock rooster rushed to defend his young hens and babies that adored him and was killed by a nasty hawk that turned it's fury on him. He was in my side yard where several of the youngsters and a few hens stay during the day...only a couple...
