The chooks are all happy, thanks for asking.
I think they're finishing their moults now. Took them long enough... haven't had eggs in almost a month! (no problems, just having a break from laying... all at the same time)
Since no ones been broody I think the chooks have finally come to a...
Hi everyone!
I haven't been on the site in weeks! The site refused to work for me for a while. Did that happen to anyone else? It could have been something to do with the connection at my place.
How is everyone? I hope you and your chooks are all well.
I have over 1000 unread posts on...
It's understanding that you would find it irritating; it's stupid. I wonder what went through their minds when they decided to buy it... actually now that I think about it did they think before getting that chicken? I doubt it...
LuckysMum hope your toe gets better! Maybe the weather will clear up between the rain for long enough so you can finish that coop… just don’t pick up any more bricks…
MyHaven glad to hear that the cat bite didn’t get infected and that you aren’t going to turn into a were-cat!
Haha that's...
Wow I had so much catching up to do! Seventy five unread messages?! Ugh!
Anyway, I’m sorry to hear that the little chooks have mites, mooandmcgee. Remember to keep working at eradicating them all and don’t give up!
Telia congratulations on finding out what Kiki was clucking about! I bet...
There's a lot of talk about egg songs... what are they? I haven't heard of them before this chat. Is it a specific name given to the kinda half-crowing a chook does after laying an egg... or is this just a nickname for something?
:7
I've seen ads online for them before... I'm pretty sure they're exactly what the name suggests. :7
Some people love having inside chooks... the opposite of my chooks, who won't try stepping inside even when they are cornered in an open doorway (it's like an invisible force repels them from the...
Thought I'd show you all Ebony's lovely tail feathers!
Except she doesn't have any at the moment... (besides the ones scattered around the yard from the moult) :7
None of the chooks know where the camera is... :7
Sounds like a nice variation of colours, although it looks like mostly partridge to me (I think?).
That's amazing that the first chick shows them around! Future top of the pecking order in your brahmas maybe? :7
It's raining quite a bit where I am right now... This is the one time the moonscrape in the chooks run has a purpose: worms! They all come up from the ground there (as there's no grass). It keeps the chooks under the cover (even chooks that won't eat the worms get distracted by them). :7...
I personally use pine shavings to cover the floor under the perches in my coop. The chooks are happy with it and the pine scent helps to cover the "lovely" scent of the birds. ;7
If the birds don't have mites then you should just stick with treating them every three months or so. There are various liquid mite treatments that usually have to be applied on the back of the neck that prevent the birds from getting mites. I'm not quite sure where you would get them though...
That's good to hear! My fingers are crossed for them as well! :7
I was literally just about to ask how your chooks did today when you posted this! I had a whole post written out and was about to click submit when yours appeared! Haha.
One of my chooks gave me a disgusted look when I tried to offer her an earthworm one time... I suppose she thinks that she's too proper to eat anything that comes from below her feet?
A different chicken nearly ended up choking on a GIGANTIC moth, and she was a pullet at the time so this moth...
That is an awesome picture! Does the sea eagle spook the chooks?
I sometimes see sea eagles at my place but they are usually chased away by a magpie (a truly terrifying bird when in the breeding season :7 ).
Your property looks beautiful! My yard is pretty big but not large. It's bigger than...
My chooks love destroying my mum's potted plants and pooping all over the veranda... at least they are polite enough to let me know by wiping their feet (loudly) on the door mat.
I used to have a rooster who would lead the girls across the veranda to the back door at five o'clock each...
