NO-one is laying here right now. I just filled the incubator with eggs I got from a friend who has ducks from my flock. 27 eggs in- its the biggest setting of eggs I have ever done. I hope to get a dozen at least - since I think many of the eggs wont be fertile - sadly- no eggs for the...
Great to hear about the rain Satay- but i have seen photos from up that side of the Country and see some areas have had more than a fair share. Im currently recouperating from having my tonsils removed and although home- havent caught up with the news every day. but I was shocked to see the...
Hi there and welcome to BYC I also love on Melbourne and the ducks were really sweltering today.
Luckily my daughter was home - with the hose and was able to cool them down throughout the day. At least ducks dont mind the water so much- I read of a few people loosing chooks over the last...
Since I dont get on here very often ... I thought I better visit so I can wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. i have used this one befoer...but I have been slack this year...and havent taken photos yet.
I am about to set some eggs for New year as well..then that will be it for me I think. I did want to hatch a few more form a particular duck- but I have too many babies here right now.
Satay- i think maybe about 40 - 50. I didnt keep track this year- but I still have 20 here of different...
Anyone planning on a Christmas hatch?? I just candled a few eggs and it look like I will have a few duckies here to play with over the few days I get off work
Muscovies arent great layers- being more seasonal than year round- But they make up for that by being great mothers Runners are great egg layers.
Does anyone here show at local small agricultural shows? Im off to the Kyneton ( Victoria ) Show tomorrow. I love going to the small...
Thought I better pop my head in and say Hi.... Had the sweetest little baby hatch today- It was trying to jump out of the brooder as it wanted to be cuddled. So cute... I hate that they grow up so fast.
I got a message today- So I have to apologise to you all for disappearing. being spring though... I guess we are all busy right now. So.. An update. I have 2 goslings- and 15 ducklings in my spare room right now. I took a heap to an auction last weekend- so there would be 17 more...
I have eggs in... Hatching some for myself at the moment so keeping it low numbers for a while. I found quail very hard to brood. Slight temp swings can finish them off very quickly and they are silly little things too- make sure they cant walk ion their water.. Yes- one of mine got...
I wont be having goslings this year either satay... I think I need a year off- They are great for keeping the grass down over summer- but I dont mind mowing. I am getting paranoid about the new neighbours that havent moved in yet and am making sure the numbers dont get out of hand this year.
Wow Satay..already?? that seemed quick...but then again- i havent been on here much lately. Good luck with the babies. Goslings are just so adorable . You are going to be completely smitten.
Wooklet that brooder looks better than TV!!! Recently we had a council clean up in my area- I saw a huge Tv and thought about what a wonderful brooder I could make of it- removing the insides and putting perspex at the front so i could watch the ducklings.
Satay...dont forget I have actually only hatched one gosling. I have raised hundreds but only one from my incubator. With geese the mothers really are the best mothers- but many people do have really good success hatching them. I think you were right to leave them dirty- after all- thats how...
With all these chcikens photos about...I was hoping to see some from Wooklet !!!! I hear she has some good looking little chicks that will turn out big and scarey looking.. I have a very healthy respect for Malays... and always give them a dignified amount of space when near them.
qldchook i was reading last night of a fellow by the name of Tully in QLD. He is well known around the country for his breeding of a large number of different birds. Sadly in a relatively short period of time Mark has lost his house bought flooded and burnt to the ground and his mother also...
