    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

The 5-10% sounds about right. MG only seems to really hurt the youngest. Chicks have high mortality at times. But adults can handle it rather easily. I think thats why people choose to keep chickens with it.

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

I was given the wrong information about the chicks being sold at TSC. I just spoke to Katie, a rep there. She heard the coworker tell it to me wrong the day I called, and was glad I called back. Apparently my word got around and people had been calling. What had happened was that 1 flock out of...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

If you avoid shady breeders though, or people who can't give you background on their breeder flock, you will be just fine. Like Sonja said, it's not as prevalent as they make it out to be, but if they keep playing it down and selling sick animals it could end up that way. The one thing I can...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Is it bc of what we said? I hope not, I surely don't want to ruin anything for anyone :(

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Yes yes. Apparently they had to use a new hatchery this year bc last years hatchery had a salmonella outbreak and a lot of chicks died on people.

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Yeah, that's how I was possibly exposed. It was one of two ways, one of which being from the equipment I borrowed from a local game bird breeder (& fighter, but he's a nice man so "ye judge not" is what I stick to. I'd never do it, but I'm not going to change the mind of a man who's been doing...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Oh I'd love me some orps What are your types and prices? Do you ship? They've been such sweet birds in my experience. Thanks for the info. I've never done this before (the NPIP part) and it will be a while before I try to, so I'm just starting to dip my toes into the research. Yes, I will do...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

What all do you sell? (You can pm me if you'd prefer) And I didn't realize TN didn't , but I do know there are vets that can & will test for it (though they are far & few between) and I guess I could give customers proof with some kind of documentation from the vet that they are clean. I'm...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

@Sonja73 , do you sell chicks/hatching eggs yet? I plan on joining NPIP and testing mine for everything, including MG. I'm located in southern TN about a 30-45 min from the Alabama line. But it'll be at least another year before I'll be able to do anything. I'm still waiting on chicks to arrive...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

No problemo @rebel-rousing-at-night !!! Thats what we do here on BYC right? Exchange info for the betterment of the hobby! Hope some more places pop up over time as people begin to realize the gravity of the MG disease. Just bc some large hatcheries don't give us many options doesn't mean we...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Ok, so I've returned from my chicken depression & here's my random information & opinion ....hope it's of use & not too late. I realize this is an old thread. I know of someone in Clermont,Georgia that is certified MG-free. & I just placed an order from Whitmore Farm today actually. Now that...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Oh it's too late for separation. 75% of my flock had a bit where they had clear runny noses through all this. Now none of my birds are showing signs of illness (And I haven't given them medication) so I'm just going to depopulate most likely once the rest of the results come in. I am just glad I...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Do I need to call them back in the morning and ask them to do a swab? I specifically mentioned testing for ms and mg when I sent in the submission forms. The woman I talked to had a very heavy foreign accent, so I couldn't make out everything she said, but she did mention something about...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

I have not been able to find an actual site to purchase these kits, nor a price tag, but have found sites promoting them. That why I decided to go with the state. Laws may differ, but here the department of agriculture's lab(s) must do tests for free if you consume your birds eggs or meat. Which...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

Haha! Sorry about that! But it is true. I have heard of people doing it the right way (continually testing to remove it from breeding stock), but a lot are honestly too soft hearted to cull for illness, deformity, or injury (& I'm talkin debilitating stuff here) so instead they fix it all up &...

    MG Certified hatcheries/breeders?

This is very interesting, so I am jumping on board. Maybe we can get the discussion back onto this. It is very important, in my opinion to cull birds that are sick. The reason there is a huge problem is because people are too soft to deal with doin' what you have to do sometimes (cull), and they...
