My gals get their FF in the morning with a side salad
Whatever they have not finished off is then tossed in their favourite spot during their afternoon free range and as someone else mentioned previously, they think it is new, get all excited and eat it lol. Whatever is left over from round...
*Chuckle* True LindaB220, I didn't think of that.
To be honest, I am not sure why I rinse out the jar, just a habit I got into I guess. It ferments just nicely in the 3 days so doesn't need any sediment to start it off and as I always have a jar ready each morning, I do not need it to ferment...
While I am in de-lurk mode, I am going to share how I do my FF; again, just sharing what I do .. different strokes
Because I have a small flock, the 'bucket method' is a little on the overkill side and would probably take up more room than my 5 little bantams.
I use the 3 jar x 3 day...
Thank you ReillyJ :)
Dusty is a Bantam Langshan, famous for their beautiful big brown eyes which melt hearts on sight
I didn’t change her base feed at all; stuck with the coarse grain FF they have always had but made sure she also got some eggs (scrambled and boiled; I mash up the boiled...
De-lurking to talk about molting; gees, do I have some pics of a hard molt! Poor ole Dusty went from this:
To this in a matter of days! I freaked out, came home from work, black feathers everywhere! This was my first experience with a hard molt:
Now, she is back to this and I...
Again, quote: "different strokes for different folks", just sharing what 'I' do:
I have two water sources (one larger dispenser and a back up small dispenser, just in case one should get knocked over). I change their water morning and night. I add raw, unfiltered ACV; in the small container...
No problemo Meeka3
I probably should mention that is what 'I' do and the whole Yeah or Nay on ACV will continue to be something debated for years to come I think; some are pro and some are con. This is the same for FF, some are pro and some are con .. I am one who is happy to share what 'I'...
I add ACV (with mother) to my bantams drinking water. I was told about ACV by a friend who has had chickens for a very long time and some of the reasons he uses it are:
* It apparently maintains a good pH balance in their digestive system and makes it a little uncomfortable for worms to live...
Delurking to sing a little praise for FF also
After thinking about trying FF for a while, I finally decided to give it a go after a friend recommended the '3 x day, 3 x jar' method. I only have 5 little banties and found the whole 'one batch bucket, take out, top up' method a bit daunting...
