Double fencing can be quite effective. Some complain that they don't want to lost the four feet in between, but we planted vining veggies on ours - cucumbers, beans, gourds & such, so the "unused" space was actually good for access to the harvest.
What variety of wormwood (artemisia, right?) did you plant? Silver Mound, the soft, round one that everyone wants in their garden, doesn't like to dry out, but has to be watered carefully. Water droplets act like magnifying glasses and burn the leaves. If you really want that type, water in the...
Try white clover in your yard, too. Not only does it draw the honeybees, but it crowds out the crabgrass and doesn't need constant mowing, like grass. Plus, the chickens LOVE it!
The best plant markers I've ever used were free. I replaced my metal mini-blinds and used the slats as plant markers. I cut a 36" slat into two pieces, then cut each half in two with a slanted cut ... instant "digger" ends! That left me with about a gazillion 8-10 inch markers. A permanent...
I've done nothing in the garden yet today, but you can bet that's gonna change when I get home from church. Today is the first time in THREE WEEKS that the day has dawned sunny and dry with no rain forecast. It's time to play! :yesss:
Covid is becoming a new "common cold" virus. Everyone will get it ... multiple times. Just like the cold, some people pick up the virus and fight it off. They never get really sick, just "under the weather." Others get knocked flat. Then there are people like my DD - who tested positive but...
Even a mild case of Covid can be rough! Stay hydrated past the point where you think you've had enough. It definitely makes a difference ... and I speak from waaaaaaay too much experience!
OUCH! I've had good luck with inside-out duct tape for hard-to-reach slivers. It also works for kids who won't let you touch the "owie." Just roll the tape, sticky side out, over the back of your hand and stick it to the sliver. You can even let the kiddo pull off the tape ... even if he's over 40!
Another great way to use shredded squash is to mix it with eggs, bread crumbs and seasonings to imitate a crabcake or fishcake. You can even refreeze them once they're cooked. I do up a bunch, then take them for lunch ... that is, I did when we were allowed to actually go OUT to work. Working...
Ooooh! I'm gonna run out and check mine again! I have dozens of them spread out all over my front lawn. When they all pop, the yard looks like an Easter Basket! The next-best part (after the wonderful brush with Spring) is that, by the time the grass needs it's first mow, the flowers are spent...
Whoa! That's scary! It's a good thing you were right there and not across the kitchen ... or the house! My little toaster oven went up in flames a while back (and almost took my kitchen cabinets with it!) Luckily we were right there, as well. It's a shame about your flour. You were so excited...
Thanks! That's pretty neat! And you're right about the smaller scale tornadoes. They happen all the time, pretty much everywhere along the East Coast, not just Maryland. Unless they've hit something significant or cause some news-worthy (dirty laundry) type damage, they don't get much...
I've lived in Maryland all my life and only recall a handful of real tornadoes - including the one in College Park and a small one in Harford County that took out a neighbor's barn. We had lots of damaging, tornado-like wind shear blasts, but very few actual tornadoes. Since the mid-90's, we...
