You guys should direct that question here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread This thread is for breeding to the standard of perfection. I would never use a single combed Silkie in any breeding. Hatchery Silkie info shouldn't be discussed on a exhibition thread. You'll...

Hatched this fella January 15th. I put him in the breeding pen to replace his father. I like him much better. :) I've been terrible at taking photos of the Silkies this year. They aren't allowed free ranging, so it's hard to get good photos. This little one is one of his daughters. She is...

I get some like this. My white chicks are different shades as chicks, but all feather out perfectly white. Why is that? Note: Some have shading around their crest, wings, etc.. I haven't really gotten any pictures of it. I'll have to do that. I thought maybe some were gold based, and some...

Hope you are being sarcastic ;) I would put $100 on it being a pullet. Her brothers are obvious right now.

9 weeks old. I think she has lots of potential.

My F1 Partridge are 13 weeks and 11 weeks now. The boys are not great in colour at all, but almost all of the girls are pretty good for colour. I'm really pleased with them. I'm not sure which two males to keep, as none look partridge to me, and more buff with partridge in the tail and wings...

I don't like to separate them. They need that company. Chickens are flock creatures. If not in direct contact, should be at least able to see/hear their flock mates. Unless you are my hen Margaret, who hates other chickens...

Sonoran, If I breed my frizzled silkie (frizzled silkie feathers) to a smooth bird, will I just get all smooth feathers? If I bred her to a rough sizzle, will I get frazzled birds? I know two rough sizzles are a bad idea. I have her in with my best white silkie male. What would my...

Some of my girls can't see a whole lot, but are very savvy. They've been free ranging since 4 weeks. Very good at it now. They hang in the woods and in brush much of the day. :)

The youngest partridge is 10 weeks now (turned 10 weeks on Monday). Oldest 12 weeks. Could be because yours developed cocci. None of these silkies did.

I thought I'd jump in and share some of my project partridge birds. True bred partridge are impossible to find in my area unfortunately. Their mothers were all white, and their father was buff/partridge. The chicks are 9 and 11 weeks old. The boys all have a distinct comb right now...

At hatch yes, but they'll even out and be the same size full grown (give or take a little).

I've seen this chick in person (hatched it for Jason), and I question it, because the silkies that he has have nice thick foot feathering. The chick is very low on the foot feathering, so I am guessing it is mixed. Won't take long to tell. It will either start feathering in with hard feathers or...

My first thought as well. They would make great smooth birds for a sizzle rooster.

I know. I never wanted white, but I do like these guys. They are prettier in person than pictures. And I really like the blues, especially the boy. Quote: Yep!

He has no problems at all. People line up for even his pet birds. Yes he dyed the green girl for his daughter on Easter. Not sure if he did, or his wife did, but they did it for the kids. :) It is hard to get good quality silkies here. No one ships. Jamie has some of the nicest whites around...

and they will only look better once they molt their clipped feathers. Here is one of the pullets from the same line last spring. He still had her in the ones I picked from, and I do believe I may have her..but with all the clipping he did, it's hard to tell for sure.. :( He sells off his...

There was a buff in with the whites, which is why I have not separated them. They are already all crazy colours. Once the barn is built I will for sure be separating. I want to keep the whites and the blues apart.
