I smelled a skunk last night but nothing came in my yard or near the coop. It is almost September so I know many animals will start preparing for winter. I hope my dogs keep doing a good job of keeping other 4 legged creatures out of my yard.

I found this to be amusing. I never knew foxes, raccoons, skunks, and hawks were at THAT level. Screw using Anthrax as biological weapon for bio-terrorism...
Hahaha, yes I use the terms" live and let live" and "Eco system". Like I said before, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because you don't agree with it does not mean you should try to belittle it. Oh and survival of the fittest ?...........well than, let's just kill it all...
That is sad though. Raccoons can be nasty little buggers from what I hear. My mother in law had some grabbing the big coy fish in her ponds. Covering with a net worked for her.
No raccoon problem here yet. I have the coop surrounded by stones on the bottom and wire cloth to prevent digging. They also are locked in their coop for the night. I have a door that closes the entry to the coop and the window is made of wire cloth. I hope nothing tries to reach in there for...
Speaking of hawk, a giant just flew over my home. So I put the girls back in their covered run. The hawk was gorgeous though, glad I was able to see the beauty
I will yell at them too. I'm not going to kill a hawk but I would definitely try to protect my girls if I have to. A little screaming and waving never hurt anyone. I have an American pit bull terrier too. Great dogs :)
Its okay if you dislike hawks. Everyone is different. I prefer to live and let live. The area surrounding my home is full of predators and I'm sure I will be seeing more since I brought chickens home. That's the risk I took by getting my lovely chicks. Hawks are definitely going to be my main...
People like hawks because they are an important part of the Eco system that have been around for centuries. I have hawks too but I have built a chicken run that is very predator proof. I let them free range for 3-4 hours in the evening. ....they are supervised the entire time. I also have hiding...
