I feel like a horrible hatcher...I had 7 hatch out of 28 eggs in lockdown. 3 Died while externally pipping, 3 died after internally pipping, and 3 might not have been alive at lockdown...that's the third hatch in a row! Maybe even 5th...the only good hatch I ever had was the first one.
I thought I read something where the reason they externally pip is because the oxygen levels get too low, so they start to pull in all of the oxygenated blood from the veins (after they have internally pipped and used up that air) and then get woozy, and that triggers them to strike a hole in...
They are wheaten ameraucanas. They are in with a cuckoo marans and a partridge rock from about the same hatch time. 6 ams went into lockdown, two came out, apparently none will survive. The way the one chicks neck went I felt like I should try some vitamin e but I've never had unexplained...
I had a chick die this weekend that was suddenly lethargic and curling his head in. Now I have another chick today that is weak and chirping...what is going on!
Sad Hatch Day. 3 hatched out of 9 in lockdown. The other six looked fully formed but didn't pip. Lockdown humidity has been around 50%, and I couldn't seem to get it higher...now that I taped the LG all the way around it's going up to 70%...sigh
