Guess I haven't mentioned chicken fever hit and I got 6 new pullets last weekend. I was actually wanting brown egg layers, ended up with more neutral colored girls. 🤪 2 Mystic marans, 2 F1 Zombies and 2 F1 Blue Olive Eggers. I haven't a clue about breeding designations, but I guess If I...

I would have thought your area has a bit more warm weather for peppers. I haven't planted peppers after moving back here from TX in 2016. Tomatoes are almost done. I hope they all finish. I might just pull and hang the plants before it starts rainy cold weather. My dry beans are molding a bit...

I am getting garden fatigue, if that is the term for "it's producing so well, I don't have anymore freezer space or canning jars." Now with just the two of us most of the meals, it doesn't make sense to have a huge garden anymore.

Afriend of mine went fishing for tuna years back, and when he came home with 350# of fillers, he made me a deal to can it for half of it. Best tuna (albacore) we ever ate. My brother does the same with yellowfin tuna if he has an overabundance.

Oh, this weather has been great! Left on a cruise last week to colder, rainier Alaska, and so glad to come home to this. Looking forward to warmer days. DH is revamping the run, taking off low hanging wire fence roofing and putting up higher, metal roof. It will be nice to not have to bend down...

I started my seeds inside before Christmas, and they look bigger and better than last year with winter sowing. Some planting charts have next month as setting out time.

Is it time to put onions starts out yet? @Smokerbill or any other gardeners in W. WA.

I used to make 5 gallon buckets of sauerkraut. Just froze in containers to keep, and I think it may have preserved the probiotics. Can't say I can prove that, though. The trick for that amount is to stir it every day, so the top doesn't get funky. Today I'll be fermenting my sourdough bread in...

Finally got our new insulated garage doors installed. The other ones are close to 40 years old, wooden, noisy and difficult to open. Now we can barely hear them operate. On the chicken front, I have a pullet who is going through a neck and partial molt at 9 months. She also has a bumble on the...

One advantage of suburban locations. Glad the girls have figured it out. You may still see a peck here and there.

Gotta run out to the garden to get kale for zuppa toscana between raindrops. And pick some for the girls as well.

:fl this is me every time I plant something new. Correction, every season. Sometimes even the tried and true things don't succeed because of different factors every year. May you have enough to ward off the vampires, and sometimes other humans. :lau

Now that it's wet out. Would you, if you were treating bumblefoot, let chicken back out, or keep in a wire cage in the covered run, or keep inside to stay dry? One big factor is she is hard to catch for daily treatment. I do have a broody jail she could stay in. This lazy tender treated...

On what side of our state are you? Yes, the pecking thing is normal. After all, the top hens will not give up their seniority rights. My two elders, both over four years old, and the two 2.5 y.o. hens will do peck reminders to pullets who get in their way of treats. Lucky you, no weasels. I...

The seeds do grow, as some have sprouted in the wet heads and on the ground where they fell. I hope it's the heirloom Yellow of Parma. Could be Patterson or Sweet Spanish. I could grow them for spring onions, but who uses that many? Girls will get them, I guess. Now I get to shop, which can be...

@Smokerbill I remember you saying you've already planted potatoes. What size potato do you find works best? I can't plant mine now, the moles are invading my whole garden, and they eat the taters.
