    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was at work but husband and kid both said it was crazy. Understanding were females were together and male was hanging out. Husband was in kitchen doing tidying while she handled birds. I think the hawk was canvassing. I have never seen one near our yard before and we let even our silkies free...

I wish I could say they weren't. Got my females. Lex was livid and heart broken. She had them in the backyard for a whole 5 minutes - normally they were in a dog run with a cover so predator proof. However rain made it manditory to clean and move to higher ground. Our male is holding strong and...

We had that happen last week. Freaking hawk had a discerning pallet. Ignored my $3 feed store chickens and decided both my female ducks were delish.. Kiddo was livid. She had let them out to clean their pen. Went into garage to grab clean bedding and came out to Hawk banquette. My drake...

Edited: I went out and checked the suspect hen. The discoloration is on her affected nails and only the underside of her foot. The upper part of her foot is perfectly black.

They are stunning. Here is a chick from our latest hatch came from my splash hen and blue rooster. I am gonna have to pull that Splash though if she keeps throwing these toes.. >.< Which is sucky because her crest and colors are stunning.. Just those **** toes.

More mad props to you for working on the partridge. That was too ambitious a project for us. Right now we are battling white toenails. I may have to completely pull that part of the line out. Too bad since I have a really pretty Splash just those darn toes. I will get pictures of them when the...

I heard Partridge silkies are painful to breed... just because of how many get colors in the wrong places. They are beautiful though.

Craigslist chickens can be very spotty. Many of them are either crossed with another breed or the colors are randomly cross so you don't have a clear idea of genetics Since we are breeding for BBS as well; we want to know exactly what we are breeding in and out. Brown being a big pain in the...

My stunning dark blue hen is from Catdance lines. Love the bird; just beautiful. We are being pretty picky and I will be cleaning birds once the weather is improved and checking through them to move pet quality bird to new homes. Only pet quality we won't part with is my daughter's showing and...

Thanks for heads up. I am avoiding hatchery birds for as long as I can. I know they are pretty sub par.

Catdance is local for us being about 45 minutes North. Is she doing more than Whites? I see her birds in shows down here pretty often.

Our roosters would love a couple more hens and I think our current hens would like a bit of respite. I need to go out and get updated pictures. My little lame one from last year is now a rather spirited runner (Lex says I fixed her knee too well) and turned into the prettiest little splash. We...

My daughter is looking to expand her 4h silkie breeding project. She wants to get some really strong splashes along with Blues as well as blacks. Duckdrover was really kind and gave us some very stunning roosters last year but we are still on the hunt for a couple pretty true black bantams...

And our little lame chicken I now whole and happy to be back with her flock. I wish I had taken a few pictures of that silly pullet falling asleep in the epsom salt bath we gave her for that inital first few weeks. Never thought I would have to give a chicken PT but Bitey appreciated it. Now...

She is eating ok and making that cooing noise that only silkies can do. Just trying to encourage healing on the leg. So she gets to enjoy baths and little massages. Poor Bitey.

We introduced 2 new roosters to the flock and the next day she was limping. It has been just over a week since the injury and she is isolated indoors to resover. We don't vaccinate for mareks but our chicks are hen brooded and we raise turkeys for the natural immunity they shed. If it were...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Trying to figure out what she did to her leg. No visible break or swelling but she can't seem to put weight on it or stand on that leg. So far quiet and rest hasn't helped. Tried a warm bath and gentle massage.. See if that helps bity out..Just grr.. Not that she is one of my good birds but I...

Typically Silkies are really sweet and docile. Well the pullet currently indoors (she wonked her leg up somehow) missed that memo... We now have a bity splash silkie pullet.
