I've been boiling my older chickens and then grinding the meat. This is very helpful when cooking an older bird. I then freeze the cooked and ground up meat and use it later in soups or spaghetti...
Going back a few (?) pages to the layer feed concerns. What do you feed to your chicks that are broody raised and in with the general population? I feed everyone, in the general population, layer pellets no matter age and haven't had any problems. The chicks that are hatched in the incubator...
I let mine out to free range, then feed them FF once in the afternoon. Usually not all of it is gone by the time I lock them up at night.
I just started adding Rye Grass pellets to my mix. They don't eat it as well, but it is all eaten!
