    Backyard Brahmas!!

http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/04/beat-heat-helping-chickens-survive-high.html?m=1 Do not spray them, but spraying the roof of the coop and/or run/pen am the area around it is helpful. Keep their water cool, they are more likely to drink it if its cold. Offer frozen treats, I put peas...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Our 25 week old Light Brahma named Pema, from Meyer Hatchery. I love her shape and size and a her sweet personality. I think she started laying this week but haven't caught her in the act. I've gotten 4 small peach pullet eggs four days in a row, but they could be from our White Rock Snow who...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Handsome boy newmarch! Our Light Brahma pullet is 23 and a half weeks old and two days ago she was making a fuss in the coop, I checked on her and she was trying to share a nest box with two of the hens when there was an empty nest at the end of course. Our girls never share and were quite...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Congrats! How old is she? We have three pullet's this year, 22 weeks old, the White Rock started laying last week, cutest little eggs. I'm guessing I have another month at least for our Light Brahma.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I think it's their "beetle brow" that makes them look either grumpy or sad depending.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Is there a specific reason why they are on medicated feed? I know some folks do medicated chick feed by choice, but you certainly don't have to if they are healthy and I don't think you would want them on it that close to laying age. If you want to boost their immune systems try adding some...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I wish my Buff Orp, Baby, was that way, she's a big snuggle monster but is very possessive about it and is a jealous girl. She started out as a bit of a loner chick, at the bottom of the pecking order, always wanting to come out and cuddle with mom. When they moved out to the coop she started...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Looks like we are all guessing our 7 week olds. Brahmas and Cochins are both slow to develop and hard to sex. The comb on your Cochin doesn't concern me but those point looking feathers do. But I don't know much about Cochins. I think your Brahmas are pullets until proven guilty.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Hard to say at this point mind you I'm no expert but I do remember at 9 weeks our girls, who are now year old hens, would go through periods where their faces would get really pink and then they would fade. Post again in a couple weeks, I will be too, I still have hope :) Aww she's a pretty...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Crud, my husband is going to be devastated if that is the case. And we only bought three chicks this spring. The Light Brahma and White Rock are really bonded, they cry for each other when separated. Our town ordinances do not explicitly forbid roosters. They actually say nothing specific...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Aww- both in the sad he's a cockerel and how sweet about him and his sister. Remind me, can you keep a roo where you live? I'm a bit concerned about our 7 week old Brahma as well. She was sexed female at Meyer, she's super friendly and good with her sisters, more attached to one than the...

Few things, besides the wire that SpeckledHen mentioned. It looks like the top of your run is open from the pictures. Bird netting or chicken wire would at least deter hawks, tin or plastic sheet roofing will keep out predators and lessen the mud and smell of wet droppings (we are about to...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

X2! Very lucky! I have no idea as far as id-ing. Would love to see more pics when they are dry and fluffy.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Bummer about the evil roosters, but I do think that is a nice name. Brahma over White Rocks should make really nice table birds.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Thanks Violet and thank you for the suggestions. I like Winter and Tundra, though ultimately it will be my husband's decision, I am making lists. These also work for my son's White Rock chick he picked out to be a "snow chicken" I've given him lots of winter themed suggestions but he doesn't...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I <3 this thread but have never posted. You all have beautiful Brahmas, I loved looking through the image gallery at them. We've had chickens for just over year now, we have a mixed flock of four hens from Meyer Hatchery (it's only an hour away from us so we drive down to pick up our chicks)...
