Backyard Brahmas!!

Crud, my husband is going to be devastated if that is the case. And we only bought three chicks this spring. The Light Brahma and White Rock are really bonded, they cry for each other when separated. Our town ordinances do not explicitly forbid roosters. They actually say nothing specific about chicken keepin except that poultry is defined are separate from livestock and livestock you need a permit for. It doesn't even limit the amount of chickens you can have. But all other rules for animals apply, no excessive smell or noise. I know the neighbors won't want a rooster. We were planning to move to acerage in a few years, maybe we need to speed things up, but so much work needs to be done to sell. We may have to get rid of "him" but will wait for a crow.

It would be helpful to see pics of yours..
Nothing is definite till you hear the crow, we will keep our fingers crossed for you. I sealed it today with mine the 2nd/3rd row of comb popped up since yesterday. Mine were picked up on the 6th of March so they were prob hatched no later than the 3rd and just over this weekend all his boy traits really advanced.

Thanks. Boo :(

Is anyone else a bit concerned about Blooie? She went to look and never came back. Do you think she fainted and they ate her?

<<-------- Waving hand weakly - I'm here. I went out and took pictures. I really did. But I kept getting confused about which one's I'd already taken pictures of and which ones still needed their 5 seconds of fame. Hard to tell them apart when they speed 40 mph around the run and you've got nobody helping you. So finally I put the Bigs outside. Then I grabbed the phone in one hand and a chick in the other, and tried to take pictures while I held on. As soon as one was done, out the door it went. Funny, everytime I opened the door to let a Brahma out, an EE made good it's escape too! By the time I got all 4 done, every bird I owned was outside. Well, except for the Tinys. They behaved themselves in the brooder very well. Anyway....I hope these are good enough, and I hope I didn't mix them up in the transferring! And I didn't get body shots....well, I did but they're black and white blurs.

So here we go:

Chick 1 - girl?

Chick 2 - girl?

Chick 3 - boy?

Chick 3 again

Chick 4 - boy?

Chick 4 again.

Yeah, the lighting wasn't the best for each shot...sun was running behind the clouds faster than I could click the shutter! The faces are the first thing I noticed. Two of the chicks have this kind of peach color and the other two are much redder.

Thanks for worrying about me! Warms the cockles of my heart!

Sideways Face?? crooked beak? My buff brahma is almost 7 weeks old. I just noticed that her face is slightly off to one side. Check it out!
she is not scissor beaked yet just growing sideways.
It bends this direction, hard to see in this pic, bottom and top match at least

You can see it well in this pic. Hope she'll be able to grow, eat and live with this. Whataya think? had any like this?

Hard to say at this point mind you I'm no expert but I do remember at 9 weeks our girls, who are now year old hens, would go through periods where their faces would get really pink and then they would fade. Post again in a couple weeks, I will be too, I still have hope :)

Aww she's a pretty girl. I wouldn't worry, looks like she should be fine.
