September Chicks in Ohio? Help! My hen Lucy, already raised her brood this summer, and they've now gone off to their new homes. Thought we were done. Blue, apparently didn't think so. Lately, Lucy has been taking off all day and just stopping in for a quick brunch, then gone again...

    Peafowl for 2013

Woe! I need to upgrade here. Those are nice beds. No wonder my peahen wouldn't lie in the cheap bed,(apparently those are for chickens)! The Orvis Co., has Dog Bed photo contests for their catalog. They've had pictures of pigs, goats, kangaroos but never a peahen. I think we need to get...

Do they have a color preference? I'm thinking my birds might like a more "summer" palette!

    Peafowl for 2013

Alright, its official, my birds are very, very spoiled! With all the rain we've been having, my peahen was bringing the chicks under the covered patio area and lying on the pebble floor with the new peeps under her. It looked so uncomfortable! Well, my daughter was SO..embarrassed when I...

Hey Thanks for the Pics comment. What kind of Pheasants? and what are they for? Pics, please. Oh no, so were they on their own(no mother to sit on them) ? I definitely will have to be on the alert for signs of failing. So far, so good, but maybe I'll add another Patio umbrella out in my run...

    Peafowl for 2013

Ughh... I can't believe my little pea chicks haven't gotten sick. Since the day after they hatched, the mother has kept them outside the hen house. I'm waiting for them to develop webbed feet. What do you say we hybridize some Peafowl to some ducks? We can call them ....ready...Pucks!

    Peafowl for 2013

Thanks Yoda, Since your in Conn. You can relate to the same type of weather and predator problems we have in Ohio. Are you getting tons of rain this year? Last night we had a tornado warning, and my male Blue chose to ride it out on the peak of our roof. Worried me to death. Love that bird-...

    Peafowl for 2013

Thank you. We moved to this house a few years back, and the property here is all hills, and ravines. I was forced therefore, to attach the pen/Aviary(aviary sounds so much nicer) against the back of the house! We were able to use a man-door in the garage and build the hen house from/out it-...

Are you looking at the roof over the peahen in the picture? That's 1" chain link fencing(as apposed to 2"), covered with a "net" of fake english ivy. I put the ivy up to filter the sun (if we ever get any again)and to also cut back on the snow that makes it through to the main walkway...

    Peafowl for 2013

We've had so much rain this spring that I had to put a patio umbrella up, inside the chicken run, to protect the feeders and dust bath. I also have a tarp over top of a corner of the run, and that is where my hen keeps her babies since they hatched. My pen has flooded in the past, so I had to...
