Peafowl for 2013

I moved my Pheseants to a outdoor pen to start to get them ready for there life of freedom, Well as soon as I did that the weather decided to change and I have lost some do to it.So Now I have them back in. I hope this weather clears up soon.  And those Pic's are great. You should add them to the show off your peas thread.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about your loss. How old were the pheasants?

We got 2 Inches last Friday.
6.5 inches on Sunday.
and Now they are calling for 2 to 5 Inches today.
NY Is getting pounded also.

The rain is getting really annoying now. Whenever my peacocks try to display with a wet train they break their train feathers. Of course, they choose to stay outside when it rains.

The five bronze eggs are due to hatch on Father's Day! Also I will soon be putting up a new thread since I will be imprinting a bronze peachick that is due to hatch on June 28.

Hey Thanks for the Pics comment. What kind of Pheasants? and what are they for? Pics, please. Oh no, so were they on their own(no mother to sit on them) ? I definitely will have to be on the alert for signs of failing. So far, so good, but maybe I'll add another Patio umbrella out in my run.
I moved the patio umbrella into the run earlier this spring, to protect the feeders and dust bath from the rain, and its proving to be a brilliant addition. Not like I'll ever need it on my patio this summer!

No Mom I am raising them though a NYSDEC Program as a raise and release program. I started out with 53 Ring Necks, I lost 15 to a Predator which I am currently trapping for and I lost 4 or 5 do to this weather I think.

Ahhh, Ring necks are gorgeous birds. Is NY trying to re establish a wild population? Sure worked with the wild Turkey program around here. Now we have Turkey every where!

THe DEC has been doing this program since the 80's I think, they don't seem to thrive here like they do in other places, My Land is partly made up of there natural habitat, So I 'll see what happens, I would like to keep a breeding pair and keep Breeding them and just keep releasing them, I have tons of wild turkeys,Grouse and so on around here. The DEC will give you as many birds as you want as long as your facility meets there standard.

Alright, its official, my birds are very, very spoiled! With all the rain we've been having, my peahen was bringing the chicks under the covered patio area and lying on the pebble floor with the new peeps under her. It looked so uncomfortable! Well, my daughter was SO..embarrassed when I bought a little dog bed at the drug store to put down on the hard floor for Mamma Lucy to use as a nest. Well, the chickens have claimed it, and we have chickens "circling" the nest waiting for an opening. I think we need a bigger dog bed !
